Is the only reason not to be bad, Consequence?

Should we be as bad as we want if it doesnt hurt ourselves or anybody else?

We don't do bad becuase god will punish us or we don't mugged our neighbors becuase it makes the world a better place(karma)

OK thats a good one.say you could do anything you wanted and not get caught for some this would seem to be without consequence,however for others their personal consequence would actually be a reality because they have a consceince so for them guilt and shame are their consequence even if it doesnt hurt themselves or others.They know of right and wrong.Wrong to steal,cheat lie and so forth.Thats a tricky question.

For a start, yes we evade evilness because of consequence( that sort of fear instill to us in sermons). But as we go along and practicing goodness, the reason of consequence slowly becoming irrelevant why we do goodness. Spiritual maturity will speak in us how goodness opens our mind to other reality we never realized before with so much clarity. It will become a reality to you that you race yourself to do more good each day because the rewards is immeasurable and inexplicable in many ways. This is why I strive to do good everyday mostly to my children and the needy. It pays.

If it doesn't hurt -anyone- ... how's it bad?

I'm trying to think of one single example. I need help.

For example most of the 10 commandments are about hurting someone. Dis your parents, chase your neighbor's wife and ruin their relationship, lie ... Killing someone hurts them and you... Having "false gods" or idols is hurtful to your own faith...

Maybe you mean: because someone -says- it's bad, but you can't see why? Well they might be right, but they might be wrong. I'd rather decide for myself if anyone will get hurt. Yeah, I have to kill plants and animals to live -- I didn't make the world, that's just the way it is. If you don't kill, you don't eat. Period.

Since you mentioned "karma", if nothing else, people should be good and kind to each other, because everything has a way of catching up with you. You get back, what you put out there.

since being bad hurts someone, or something ev ery time, your point is moot. And people who aren't affected when they do things that harm others are sociopathic, orworse, and in need of mental help. there is a little prison in eastern Ontario I suggest you sign in to, called Penetangueshine, if you don't feel any regrets for doing bad things

No. I myself don't think of the consequence if for example I do something bad to others. I am guided by moral precepts and tenets that I have learned over time.

Sinners have no place in heaven. So why should we sin? :)

You can do as you like, as long as you only ever do it with other consenting adults, and refrain from doing it in the streets if it might scare the horses.

If what you choose to do will effect anybody other than consenting adults, you shouldn't do it.

You don't have the right.

And if you do go ahead and do it, you need to be ready to pay for it; if you can't do the time, don't do the crime :o)

I like saras' answer. The reason to be good and do right is because it is the right thing to do.you need no other reason.What kind of world do you want to live in?we affect those around us,if you live right,it will be "contagious".This is what I believe in instead of god.

No, the reason to not be bad is..............for the Glory and Honor that God deserves thru us.

The end of all being is the Glory of God, not! the happiness of man..........
