I am 19 and considering using cab service to go back home from my work since my carpool takes me only in the morning. I would be traveling either in the early afternoon and around 9 in the evening, not to late.

Is this generally a safe thing to do? Is it safe for young women by themselves to take cabs? The ride is only a couple of miles from my house.

Thanks!

This should be no problem for you. Cabs are highly regulated and have strict work rules to ensure passengers are not harassed. Cabdrivers transport single women all the time and your ride will not be unusual.

Try it out for a few times and note the name of the cab company that seems to provide the best service. Note the driver's name, if s/he makes a good impression. Then ask for that company and driver... you will be amazed at the gratitude you get for your actions.

I think it should be safe.

However, if you want, you can travel the taxi few times, and the driver that can give you safe feeling, then maybe you can note down his/her contact number, and have him/her frequently pick you up and drive you back home.

This way, will eliminate unknowns and reduce the risk.

Dallas as a whole is not bad, I lived there for a couple years.
