I have a small 15lbs dog that I am going to need to have shipped to me from my mom's house in Houston, TX. I was originally only supposed to stay in Toronto for 1 month, but now I will have to remain here for another 2 months at least. I need to know if there are any special papers that need to be filled out and what would be the most adventageous mode of transportation for him.

Here are the Canadian guidelines> http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/heasan/import/dog_chien_2e.shtml

All USA airlines require a vet's certificate of health within 10 days of flight..The dog doesn't have to be in perfect health, but has to be deemed free of transmittable disease.

I was trying to find a continental airlines flight from Houston to Toronto, but couldn't find it... I would call that airline, to see if they have such a flight, as they are by far the safest to fly a pet..they have a pet sitter that never leaves the dog unattended..

In addition to the special care provided animals when they travel as cargo, Continental's QUICKPAK service offers a shorter cut-off time and guaranteed, flight-specific service, based on the time of tender. Pets will also be available for pick-up within normal baggage recovery time.

Please contact the Live Animal Desk (1.800.575.3335 or 281.553.5052) for current rates and pick-up/ drop locations.

the flight times were all about 6-7 hours for that distance..not too bad for a dog...

WHY do you want to spend at LEAST $250 EACH WAY for only a 2-mon.stay??
THAT'S just for the airline costs.There's the crate(you'll need a varikennel#200 size) & bedding & *2* clip-on cups *&*vet bills too. You'll have to RE-DO the vet/health cert.when leavng!

OF COURSE there's PAPERWORK!! Health cert.,maybe re-doing the vaccines-rabies-if not up-to-date. EVERY "speck" of proof that it *your* dog.
Call the AIRLINES!!! They're the PROs!All have 800 numbers.

ONLY use direct/NON-STOP flight.
NEVER "tranq" for shipping.
