I have a small 15lbs dog that I am going to need to have shipped to me from my mom's house in Houston, TX. I was originally only supposed to stay in Toronto for 1 month, but now I will have to remain here for another 2 months at least. I need to know if there are any special papers that need to be filled out and what would be the most adventageous mode of transportation for him.

Make sure all shots are up to date. It may be necessary to have this revalidated by calling the airlines which might want you to have a certificate from your vet within 10 days prior to it leaving.

Depending on the airline; as well as size of dog. Usually if it is under 20 lbs., it can fly in the passenger section if someone is flying with it. Otherwise, it will have to go as cargo and is shipped via the cargo/freight department.

Call the airlines for verification as they are constantly changing their rules and prices. Some airlines will rent you a container for it, others want you to use your own but it must be an authenic one used for shipping.

Call American Airlines or United Airlines and they can advise you on shipping your pet via cargo and the costs. They can also assist you with advice on any documentation you might need.
