Yes call the police when she is being abused ... maybe call a women's shelter to have them visit her and last but not least if any children are involved, as well as being hurt - call Child Services to remove them from the home to a loving and more stable environment.

If there's any way she would possibly admit to being abused, call the police. If not... there's really no way the cops can do anything, because they can't arrest if no one will admit any abuse. In that case, you may have to get creative. Are there any past offences from this guy, that are on the record? Anything he's done that would get him arrested immediately if the police knew about it? Do you have a friend (or even a friend of a friend) on the police force? Talk to them and see what you can come up with, if you do.

As disgusting as it sounds, you may have to wait and watch until there's abuse actively going on, then call the cops. If they walk in on abuse, they will arrest the abuser whether your mother agrees or not.

Is there any way you can talk sense into your mother about this? Maybe buy her a few books on abused women and ask her to read them? Many women in abusive relationships are terrified to leave the abuser because they think they might find and hurt or kill them. Tell your mother that she'll be protected no matter what, and she may change her mind. I hope.

Good luck with getting her out of this relationship. :(

The guy can go to jail for domestic violence for quite some time if there's enough evidence, all you need is a neighbor to call in next time they hear them fighting.
She won't be happy at first, but at least she'll be safer.
Get her out on a road trip, even for a day, let her see the rest of the world and what she's missing.

Do SOMETHING, if she ends up dead you'll have a hard time forgiving yourself.

Its common that women in an abusive relationship almost become 'addicted' to the abuse like they think they deserve it or that the abuser is going to change because he really loves her. The truth is that you cant do much unless she becomes willing to leave. Just show her your love, because thats something she's not receiving-unconditional love.

Women that are abused are usually picked by their abusers because they can be abused. These men know their victims and they prey. The only chance you have is to point that out or get her into a program for battered women. She is attracted to it and there isn't much you can do.

If you witness the abuse or see signs of it file reports with the police. But unfortunately, as a former abussee, until she is ready to admit to herself that this is whats happening, there really is not much you can do except be there for her.
god bless.
