In the '79 model year every Chrysler Corporation passenger car assembled with the optional "Heavy-Duty (Trailer-Assist)" package was mandated to also come fitted with the E58 360 four-barrel high performance engine (engine code "L" in the VIN). However in some specific cases, the E58 engine could be obtained without the trailer-tow package. The Dodge Magnum's optional GT package could be ordered with the E58 engine, but the trailer-tow package was not available. Using 69 FstBck's very useful statistics, only 583 Dodge Magnums with the E58 ("360-4 Hi-pro") engine were produced in '79, and some (maybe most) went into Magnum GTs. Therefore, we may safely assume this factory package is quite unusual. To answer your question, and in the absence of a more reliable reference, I would guess that about 1% (~ 300) of Magnum XEs were trailer-tow equipped. If this was not confusing enough, other "360-4 Non Hi pro" engine listed by 69 FstBck was only available with the California emissions package and was not part of the trailer-tow package.

Sorry wish i can help......but i had 2 of them. First a 78 with a 318 and then the 79 with the 360. They were so cool. But I would guess that they made more 318s than the 360s.

So the current magnum is a remake? I've never heard of any magnum before the new ones. Anyone know of a site that shows a picture of an old one? That'd be greatly appreciated
