For all sorts of various reasons, going into my junior year I'm having difficulty taking the classes I need to. My schedule is very unbalanced, consisting almost entirely of Social Sciences. (AP Art History, AP European History, AP Political Science, etc) However, I am only taking one mathematics class, and unless I drop one of my social science classes, no science classes. The reason for this is that I failed science last year and will not be able to take a class that isn't going to indicate any other than being a complete idiot. My thinking is that I can take a lot of good, solid Social Science classes and my mathematics, and to counterbalance my lack of sciences in my schedule, do some SAT II's in the sciences to substittue. If I add this to a great SAT score, do I have a competitve transcript? I'm also in sports and mock trial. Thanks for any guidance you may have.

This is what my Junior Year schedule would more or less look like-

AP European History
AP Art History
English III (Possibly honors)
AP Political Science
Algebra II
Cross Country
Culinary Arts

In addition to this, I'd submit SAT II's in Literature, Math I and II, U.S. History, World History, and Chemistry. In addition to that, with my practice SAT scores I'll estimate my SAT to be at about 2250-2300. As you can see, I'm trying to desperately fill the gaping hole I have in that in sciences I have F's. Is this enough, or do I need to rethink/replan my approach? Also, I can attend a local community college for some classes there too.

And, no, I have not yet met the requirements. I plan to make those up over the summer. (Next summer)

I am going to guess you intend something in law[poli-sci, mock trial]? If so, then you're eventually going to be required to take at least one science. Most universities however have a different way of looking at transcripts if needed. A friend of mine did terrible in most of the "liberal arts" classes, but he wanted to go into CS engineering so UF only looked at all his math & science and ONE of his English grades. So, for CS he was a shoe in. But, yes a good SAT score always helps too. That is why I took it every year 9th,10th,11th,and 12th and ended up with a 1420--yeah so I only got a 650 verbal BIG DEAL :P I wasn't into liberal arts either.
And a hint for science, take something easy like physics. If you're into law, you know logical reasoning and interpretation. That's all physics is, why-because, cause-effect. Biology is nothing but memorization, no logic process to help you learn the material. Good luck.

If you have not met the school's requirements, then taking a whole lot of Social Studies Classes would not be wise. but with all of the AP classes (if you pass them of course) will look great on your transcript. Also having extracurricular activities make a transcript to college stand out from the rest.

If you failed science, sorry, but no.

You need a well-balanced schedule. Take the easiest science classes if you can...and honestly, an F on your transcript is going to hurt.
