“He whose wisdom exceeds his works, to what may he be likened? To a tree whose branches are numerous but whose roots are few. The wind comes along and uproots it and sweeps it down.”

“If you reveal your secrets to the wind you should not blame the wind for revealing them to the trees.”

“Out of defeat can come the best in human nature. As Christians face storms of adversity, they may rise with more beauty. They are like trees that grow on mountain ridges -- battered by winds, yet trees in which we find the strongest wood.”

“I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.”

I could not locate the author of you're quote, but found some similar. It sounds like Confucius, look up http://www.thinkexist.com or the other many quote and phrase sites, you'll find it! I've heard it before...

Not sure, but they were paraphrasing Aesop. He told a fable about a tree and a reed, and of course, the big strong tree was the one that got knocked down in the storm, while the wimpy little reeds bent and lasted through the night.
