Some of us Atheists say things like "Oh My God" or "Jesus H. Christ" as a form of satire. I have been known to say things like "Praise Allah!" and "In my previous life I was a Medieval King". Doesnt mean I believe in Allah or that I believe in reincarnation.

We are poking fun at religion in most cases. We are trying to point out the silliness that is religion. In other cases, its just a figure of speach. Many of us were born into religious families and didnt go Atheist until after our teen years. It's hard for some of us to erase 20 years of god belief. Its hard for us to erase god speak from our vocabulary.

Closet believers, I think not. Freudian slip, nope. When we speak of gods, its just for our amusement.

That's how people learn to respond when upset. I was raised Catholic but now I know better. My dads first response was always "Jesus F U C K I N G Christ!" and he believed. I don't believe and that's what I say when I get upset most of the time. It's just a habit that people pick up on.

It might mean that their parents used those idioms a lot when they were young... children imitate their parents by instinct.
Once they get to be Atheists, a more conscious decision, they can find themselves saying those things because they have learnt no other expressions... better said, their parents used no other expressions in front of them.

I'd like to know where the phrase "Jumpin' Jesus" came from. Is there a passage of the Bible where Jesus jumped?

You know what Christians say?

"Son of a Monkey!!"

Oh My God, makes me ignorant? I guess adyghe just admited all theists are ignorant. LOL

I spent over half my life being programed. It is hard to just throw out every habit. Even if I don't mean it. Would it be better to say Oh **** in a croud of children? Probly but I wasn't programed to sware.

They do make me wonder what they do or don't believe in because they spend way to much time caring what Christians believe in.

They say it because our society was built by Christians and Catholics, sadly, and our slang consists of that because of many influences...

Also, I say "Judas Preist" because it's close to "Jesus Christ",which means it's easy to adjust to, and Judas Preist is ******* awesome!!!!
