I understand that the gospel of Mark never makes a biological connection between the two. It is in the gospel of Luke only i think,
LK 1:35 The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Even Elizabeth your RELATIVE is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be barren is in her sixth month. 37 For nothing is impossible with God."
Surely this makes it all the more suspicous?

well, it is a bit suspicous when john the baptist, at least in the gospel of mark, appears not to Know him. like didnt they have any idea at the age of 25 what they were up to or something? john the baptist either knew before hand Jesus was the messiah or not
