I am 29 years old and have started developing arthritis in my right hand already. I have been to the doctors but he gave me no tips on how to help it or slow down the deterioration (I have heard that as you get older it gets worse). My mother suffers from it but I don't want to worry her by telling her that I have it. Do any of you have any tips for me?

I have it to in my hands, feet, hips & lower back (I'm 33). My sister is watiting for a hips replacement beacsue of hers (she's 39).

It is a horrendous thing to be passed down from our parents (thanks Mum, a car would of been better...lol).

My top bit of advice for you is keep moving!!! It's when you give into the disease & stop using your joints, is the time they go stiff. If you can make sure that just for 10 minutes a day, you wriggle your fingers & twirl your feet, you should keep them going for a bit longer.

I have tried all the medication known to man so far, so I think that I am going to try the above mentioned answer - the copper bracelet.

I wish you the best luck trying to find something that works for you, as we are all different. :-)

Since you have not specified what type (there are hundreds) of "arthritis" you have, I am skeptical about your visit to the doctor. Without knowing the exact disease, all the suggestions in the world are not going to save your joints/bones. You must visit a qualified rhematologist immediately, and insist on a plan of action. I also suggest you seek information on your own via links that are available from the Arthritis Foundation. There are support groups everywhere for all types of arthritis victims.

Skip the copper bracelets all together. They have no proven benefit whatsoever. This is true for many of the arthritis pain alleviants that you will hear about. Don't waste your time and money on wives tales and herbal remedies.

Also, beware! Most general practitioners know very little about arthritis and how to treat it. That is why it is imperative that you see a specialist.

My sympathy is extended to you and your family. Hang in there!

Imagine for a moment your arthritis completely vanishing right now.

If, in a moment, your pain and stiffness melted away. And your joints all of a sudden functioned like a well-oiled machine.

Like a magic wand was waived, you'd be able to jump up from your chair and run around the room like a kid.

And imagine that you'd never have to suffer as much as a pinch of arthritis stiffness or pain ever again.

I know this sounds impossible right now, but bear with me, because sometimes miracles happen.

It was a gift from a woman on the other side of the world. From the kindness of her heart, she took pity on my suffering and taught me how to completely reverse my arthritis.

Today, I want to do the same for you!

I am 83 with damage knee joints and a bit of everything else including your complaint.
This works for me.
Don't overdo the salt and lower you weight by choosing a proper diet which for me is
Shredded wheat with a little Greek honey and tea
Wholemeal Banana sandwich
Meat or something and at least two veg.
Now to the hard bit.
Exercise the joint till it make you cry, rest and do it again.
Walk two miles each day.
I don't use them but they apply
Magnets
Hydrotherapy
Warmth through pads.
I have ruined all my knee cartilage's but I still manage to work in the garden.
Good Luck

Yeah as the other contributors have suggested, try and keep your hands as flexible as possible - use hand lotion - this may help.

For the pain of it - go talk to your Doctor very nicely and say to him/her - DF118 - these are Dihydrocodeine (30mg) and Paracetamol (500mg) - they do help - (been there, done that, bought the 'T' shirt) I suffer with chronic Arthritis (have had both hips replaced) and am now awaiting sugery on my knees.

In fact, the aspartame in Diet Coke may actually ease arthritis! Studies of people with osteoarthritis or a mix of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis found that aspartame relieved their pain and helped their joints move more fluidly. (Note: The studies weren’t done specifically with Diet Coke.)

I have artheritis in my lower back, right knee and the thumb areas on my hands. I have tried numerous creams and gels and find that Tiger Balm is the best (but strongest smelling). My last resort however is Alpha Lipid, it is a milk and has to be bought on the Internet as far as I know. I think you should tell your mother , she may have some tips. Also another tip is heat , bean bag in microwave helps. Good luck. Sally

Please go to a very good specialist, see it's not Dystonia!
My mother had Dystonia and died of it because it began in her hands and then went in all her body it's very dangerous becaus the pills are very nasty and the pains are too hart to take.
I don't like to scare you but first the stupid Doctors also tought that it was arthritis in her hands and yes also my grandmother and great grandmother had it.
I wish you well.

It may seem like a hoax but a friend of mine wears copper bracelets and he swears by them. otherwise try swimming in warm pools or having long baths at the times when it is bad. also special compression bandages can be bought from the pharmacy to wear at night and they have been known to help.
