Moses penned the Pentateuch or the first five books of the OT about 2500 BC. The following books are not in chronological order, but the last of it was written about 400bc, after that there were 400 silent years where no prophet was found in Israel, then John the baptist came along preparing the way for the Lord.

The first five books were written by Moses. After that, they vary widely. The oldest known is the book of Job. The most recent being the book of Malachi. Years already stated above.

oh there is all sorts of answers to this vague question.

~The time period the OT is set in?
All time up till 0

~The time period the OT was written?
answer depends. If you believe Moses wrote them all then that 1600BC thing.
If you believe the Bible was compendated in 300AD to deify Jesus, then 300-350AD
(or this could be an amended "rewriting" of something older...but their are differences between the currently accepted OT and the currently accepted Jewish tennets)
