The development and purification of the mind through ethical and meditational training can unleash powers not normally apparent which would usually be described as miraculous. The miraculous powers (abhinna iddhi /siddhi) often mentioned in the Buddhist scriptures, and sometimes manifested by the Buddha himself, include being able to multiply oneself, fly through the air, hear things over a long distance, read other people's minds, remember one's former lives and know how to destroy the defilements of the mind. Only the last three of these is considered to be important. There is little doubt that the Buddha had a cautious attitude to these and other miraculous powers. He pointed out that they could simply be due to magic or fraud rather than genuine spiritual accomplishments.
In the Vinaya Pitaka he made it an offence for monks and nuns who might possess such powers to exhibit them in public. When asked to perform a miracle in order to impress and thereby convert people, he refused saying that education was the greatest of miracles. Despite this he once praised a monk for using his psychic powers to rescue a child who had been kidnapped. So from the Buddhist perspective, the ability to perform miracles is not proof of holiness and it need not have a spiritual value although it may be used for the benefit of others.
According to the Buddha, a real miracle is the miracle of instruction: when a murderer, thief, terrorist, drunkard, or adulterer is made to realize that what he is doing is wrong and then gives up his bad and sinful way of life, this action is a real miracle. This is also the highest miracle that a man can perform.
***one day the Buddha met an ascetic who sat by the bank of a river. This ascetic had practiced austerities for 25 years. The Buddha asked him what he had received for all his labour. The ascetic proudly replied that now at last he could cross the river by walking on the water. The Buddha tried to point out that this was such little gain for so much labour, since for one penny the ferry would take him across the river.

Buddha sat on the water in lotus position -- he was teaching the lotuses how to do it. Other than that, Buddha was not much of a miracle worker in the material realm -- how could he be when he knew it was all illusion?

i wish ask of a question before the answer; are we not the childrens of our Heavenly Father and Mother Earth, so why do we are so define in making up the differences when the similarity is just within us. both Buddha and Jesus and many other more may be different by their skin, language, and clothes but they're the same in their mind, heart, and soul to be the enlighten one, to be the childrens of our Heavenly Father and Mother Earth, to be our Brothers and Sisters, and wise to remember of that then to of those who prejudice, and critic as pity thet may be an orphan without their faith. so do remember and enlighten yourself.

I think some of that comes from the pali and sanskrit canons. I have only read parts of the pali canon(theravada). walking on water and virgin birth are of what I read. You should not worry to much about the miracles though only if the buddha's philosophy works for you.

i never heard of Buddha walking on water. but I believe He could if He did. But when the Buddha is with is disciples. he show a bowl of water and said to the students: there are 84,000 germs in little bowl of water and say that we drank that is like killing 84,000 living beings....and today scientist found that out...
I believe Buddha could heal people too but not without medicine you know. come on we are humans and humans need medicine to heal. probly his medicine is somewhat differ from ours hehehe.

I honestly don't know. I find Buddha's teachings to be a great help in my life, but I know that He was a man not a god. It's possible. People who learn to control their minds are capable of doing magick.
