Just wanted to clarify some things here...
Mormons do not abstain from coffee and tea because of their caffeine content. They abstain from coffee and tea because this is what the Lord proscribed in his revelation to Joseph Smith. He did not say it was because of caffeine. The abstinence from caffeine has never been official Church doctrine, though many Mormons believe that is why they can't drink coffee and tea. Generally speaking, however, it is a good practice to avoid the consumption of caffeine anyway, as it can be a habit-forming drug.
In the 1830s, "hot drinks" was interpreted to mean coffee and tea. I know that black tea is to be avoided, but I believe certain herbal teas are acceptable. I am not familiar with Korean ginger tea, but I would guess it's probably OK. If in doubt check with your bishop.
*Edit (8/31/06): I just found a pretty good website you can visit for details on this matter. It discusses the various types of teas, and explains which ones to avoid:

Excluding the caffeine that is naturally present in coffee, tea, cocoa, and other products, "the predominant use of caffeine as an added ingredient is in soda water beverages (soft drinks), which accounts for the vast majority of the estimated 2 million pounds of caffeine added to food annually in the United States," according to a 1983 paper published by Sanford A. Miller, Ph.D., and Jane E. Harris
Caffine: It's EVERY WHERE!!!!
If drinking / eating caffine is the worse thing your friend ever does, he has nothing to worry about!

Actually, one of the mormon presidents said not too long ago that it was OK to have caffeine. But many mormons still do not drink caffeine because they are so used to the old rule. But as of the present, the rule had been tossed out.

I think it's ok! They don't like you to drink it because of the addiction that caffeine can do to you. It's addictive. I know if I go without caffeine for too many days in a row then i get a real bad headache. My sister drinks Diet Coke...I mean, water...hahaha...She try's. She aslo tells me that it's ok to drink coffee, tea, and soda as long as you don't depend on it to soothe you! I guess!
Why are you worried someone will insult you? "Mormonism?"
I know coffee and tea are in the word of wisdom. Can you tell me why that is? Im learning the church too! Will you please click on my name and click contact and tell me why please. Thanks!

AS long as there's no caffeine. Is there any chance there is any "green" tea mixed with it? Cuz that has caffeine as well.
thumbs down? for what? I'm an EX-Mormon. I drink all the caffeine, alcohol, whatever that I want, whenever I want. This person is the one who wants to know the answer. I simply answered the question in accordance with THEIR doctrine.

Your threat doesn't scare me. I only want to bless you. But I'm sure that your religion believes in the Bible also.
Rev 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:
Rev 22:19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
This clearly states that whatever you add to the Bible (eg. the Book of Mormon), God will add the plagues out of the Bible into your life. Would it not be safer repenting and giving your whole life to Jesus Christ who died for your sins. I pray peace and blessings into your life. I also pray that the Holy Spirit will open your spiritual eyes to the truth.

Please do not threaten.
Tea is not the problem for a LDS member...it is the caffeine. If Korean ginger tea is caffeine free it is fine to drink.
