Sometimes, I feel this strong need to protect and take care of my friends, almost to an extent that a mother would have towards her child. Is it possible that this could be an early development of maternal instinct? If it's not, than what could it be?

I'm only 13 years old. That is why I am wondering about this.

Yes, I felt that way my whole life. Everyone is different, and some never really have that instinct, or ignore it. But my whole life growing up, all I knew was that I wanted to be a mama. I baby-sat all the time and really enjoyed it. Then when I became a mom myself, it was the best ever. I was also always known as the motherly one in my group of friends cuz I cared about them, and tried to keep them from doing anything too stupid. Just dont become a mom yourself yet, lol! Just be glad that your insincts are kicking in and that you have the heart of a mother. Love that about yourself, you will probably be a great mom someday.
