Cinderjo (your 8th answer) is absolutely right !
I might add that the Hybrid Escape is already THE MOST FUEL EFFICIENT SUV on the road !!!
To maximize on this vehicles efficiency, use the 'max a/c'
and/or 'defrost' settings minimally. These settings (marked for you with orange control switches) use the gas engine.
also don't forget there are federal & state tax incentives available to Hybrid owners. $2600 for FWD Hybrid Escape & $1900 for 4X4 Hybrid Escape federal, check your state for its incentives.
That kind of money buys a LOT of gas.

My spouse also needs a Ford spoil out Hybrid, subsequently I actual were performing some study myself. we are a kin who've been very unswerving to both Ford and Honda. (previous: '87 Honda Accord LXi, 'ninety six Ford Mustang GT, 'ninety 9 Ford Explorer XLT, '00 Honda Accord LX. at present: '04 Honda Odyssey EXL, and '04 Ford F150 FX4 great crew.) i love the seems of the '08 spoil out Hybrid, yet I listen that the skill is extremely lacking and that the actual MPG is below marketed. We at present went and appeared into the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and prefer length of the Toyota compared to the spoil out (were given to have the capacity to bigger healthful 2 toddlers, dogs and all our stuff.) Getting the Hybrid can make the environmentalists happier, yet i'm not extremely sensible in case you ought to be saving as a lot earnings the longer time period. with any success a number of my babbling is helpful, to this point as means, we are now thinking the Honda Accord Hybrid. must be useful in the adventure that they can make an excursion Hybrid... perhaps sometime. good success!

You might want to ask on some Ford Escape Hybrid owner's discussion groups:

About the only FEH-specific info I can give is to keep an eye on your energy monitor, as that'll teach you some better driving habits.
Only use AC/heat/defroster as necessary, and don't use them on max but set at a reasonable temperature. (all require extra use of the gasoline engine)
Otherwise, same tips as for any other car:
Don't idle the vehicle. (warm up not necessary)
Use cruise control whenever possible
Make sure that your tires are at minimum at the manufacturer's specified pressure (for both safety and fuel economy)
Use the correct grade of oil and don't overfill.
Coast as much as possible and anticipate stops. Avoid being a heavy-footed driver, rapid acceleration, and putting your brakes on at the last minute...
Check your weight/aerodynamics. If you don't need that tow bar or roof rack, remove it. If you're not golfing today, take the golf clubs out of the cargo area...
Use the correct (lowest) octane fuel as required for your vehicle

you made a great decision in purchasing the ford hybrid, to maximize your gas mileadge try to keep it in the battery mode as long as possible in take offs, the hybrid is made for city driving usually under 35 mph keeps you in the battery mode when the batteries are fully charged. the battery is recharged thru the braking system and the engine.
It's a matter of retraining yourself how to drive and paying attention to when the gas engine is kicking in
