I thought I'd be washed up and rusty. I thought I'd lose. I was just as fast as ever, every move fell into place. I feel faster and stonger. But my stamina is alot lower. After 5 years, with no work outs, can I be faster and stronger? How did I keep the same speed? Why did my stamina drop in everything else is OK? My skills were even better, in relation to my older age. I adapted and was never taught how. How did this all happen? I used submissions alot. What is the best way to either train for stamina, or fight around the lack of it? I know this is a broad question. Say whatever you like.

Oh whatever. I am not saying I was ever great. I am no Kurt Angle. I just asked why I am better with no work outs.

I think with age comes strength to a certain degree. As you age your muscles get denser until you reach a senior age at which point they deteriorate.
Your age has a lot to do with it. There is no indication of how you are but I am betting your are a young man. Say the last time you wrestled was when you were 16 and now you are 21 the improvement is to be expected.
Also, if you haven't wrestled in a long time you may have really had the adrenaline flowing. This would explain the strength and speed as well as the diminished stamina.

I think wrestling is a very natural form of fighting. As children we usually all wrestle with other kids and siblings. We do this with no training and we naturally learn how to do it. Some people are naturally better than others. Perhaps with your age you gained some wisdom over your body.

It like this, you work out everyday, your constantly sore. you may grow to tolerate it and even not notice it, but still your muscles aren't recovered fully so strength and speed are lost (well not lost but ya'know). not only that your constantly learning as well. so that workout and then spar your trying to do new things (or at least your mind is keeping it in mind as you do other things.
a time went by where you weren't doing anything, your mind was clear and your muscle lose ready to spring (strength isn't the tightness of your muscles but the position of the body {pick something up by squating down first and then do it agian by bending over, see}). this is why you felt like you did better, cuz you did.

Every once and a while I'll take a break from training (usually a couple days to a week) jsut to see how good i am when i go back, it's a great feeling. but continue to train if you don't lose it you will lose it.

This can happen that you have a break and come back feeling better.

But in most cases this is because when you are in training properly you are usually trying to perfect something, a new submission, roll counter etc. therefore your mind is focused on this.

when you come back after a break you are focused on all aspects of the fight and trying to win.

When you Analise your performance i bet there are techniques you feel you can improve on when next you train you will find your mind focusing on these.

This will slow you down a little as you try to manipulate your opponent into a position for you to improve your weakness.

This is what training is all about.

When you came back your instinct and previous training became one you fought well, to improve you need to start training regularly again.

This in turn will improve your stamina

Perhaps you only "think" you were stronger and faster. The mind and memory can play tricks on you. Perhaps your opponent was simply far less skilled than you are, regardless of your strength and stamina.
