This question isn't really about Girl Scouts, although their cookies have horrifically disgusting contents, it's really about the door to door sales...

None the less the answer is yes and there are thousands upon thousands of 8 to twelve year old girls doing time in the joint even as we speak for this horrible crime. Poor little things.

Technically the Girl Scouts don't encourage door to door sales. Only if accompanied by an adult and it is neighbors that they know. Some still go door to door beyond their neighborhood when only accompanied by an adult. The houses that they don't visit are either suspicious, or ones that have posted no trespassing signs, or no solicitor signs. Otherwise it is legal, unless posted.

As a Girl Scout leader, you have to know the laws before you send the girls out for sales. It is a requirement!!

If I got a call for some crap like that, I would slap the reporting party for calling on some girl scouts.
If the person called, and was adamant that he wanted the person arrested because there were no tresspassing signs up, at the very most, I would give them a citation, and let them go.
There needs to be room in jail for the real criminals, not the guy trying to make a living selling vaccums because he cant find anything better.
If no signs up, just tell him, he's isn't welcome back at that residence.
In any case, I realllly doubt an officer will give a trip to jail for something like that, unless you become an assh**e to the officer. Because if the person in an assh**e to the officer, he has descretion, so you would pretty much talk yourself into jail.

In order for a trespass to occur, there has to be a warning / notice of some sort, so no, it's not trespassing (In the Penal Code a fence or some other barrier obviously in place to exclude entry is considered a notice / warning ). Lot's of cities have an ordinance requiring a permit for door to door solicitation, or even placing flyers on doors.

Trespass infers an illegal state of being on private property. A Girl Scout ringing your doorbell does not constitute trespass. It is solicitation.

Local and state laws vary but as long as they don't have to open an enclosure such as a gate or door, and you don't have anything posted such as no solicting, door to door sales are generally not considered tresspass.

Gotta have my Samoa cookies though!
