My friend has raised silkies for many years.. I love them! They are fun loving, and clownish..yet cute and cuddly..And that shiny, silvery coat! Just gorgeous! Hers are very obedient, and they don't bark a lot, either...

check out these pics..what's not to love! > http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official_s&sa=N&resnum=0&q=silky%20terrier&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&tab=wi

They were developed by crossing the Yokie with the Australian terrier...They became very popular in Australia, before coming to the USA

my roommates have a silky terrier that is now 3 years old. at first i was annoyed by her because she was really, really hyper and wanted attention all the time, mostly when she was a pup (and i am used to cats, so it was weird to get used to). but i absolutely _adore_ her now. she (as well as others i have known) is very loyal, quite a litte pal, and very smart. if you train her well, she won't be any trouble at all. _and_ we've raised her with a cat. the cat and silky are best friends, roll around on the floor, wrestle, and chase each other. silkies really like people, grow attached, and go through separation anxiety it seems when their owner is away. so if you get one, you should plan to spend a lot of time with it. also, you will need to groom it regularly. our silky terrier gets a puppy cut so we don't have to deal with tangles, knots, n stuff. i say go for it if you're willing to invest the time and energy into caring for it and training it. they are very loving dogs and great friends.

I puppysit two of them for a friend. They are very loving, energetic, and cute. I also found it not that hard to train. They are a little too energetic for my tastes but I breed bassets so they arent that bad. Just need to keep them groomed. They do surprise you every now and then though, and they are alert. I know that because whenever somebody walks down the sidewalk they jump up and start barking suddenly.
