Seeing Clearly:
The expression "preaching to the choir" comes to mind.

You have the option to not answer your door.

Read the first word in (2)....Unlawfully.

Knocking on someones door or stepping foot onto their property is not unlawful in and of itself..unless the "offender" has been given prior notice that they are not allowed on the property.

Put up a No Trespassing sign and you may have a case, but you'll be hard pressed to find a police officer who is going to write out a trespass citation to a girl scout for trying to sell her cookies.

If you have a doorbell and a walkway up to our front door, you are inviting people to walk up and ring the doorbell. As a result someone who accepts your "invitation" is not entering your property illegally. If they refuse to leave after you have said "no" they are remaining illegally and you may prosecute. If you want to revoke the invitation for solicitors, simply post a sign stating "No solicitors." I would suggest this over a sign saying "No trespassing" because that would stop friends from coming over to visit, uninvited.
Come to think about it, that might not be too bad either.

Depends on the town or city bylaws. In my town, solicitors need to register with the town hall. I work for the police department, and we spend a lot of time chasing around pushy and annoying solicitors. Unless otherwise posted, knocking on your door is annoying, but all you have to say is "No, thank you." and shut your door in their face. If they get pushy, call your local police department. 9 times out of 10, they'll leave and you won't have a problem. Post a no tresspassing or soliciting sign, and get a big mean dog... that should solve your problem.

Just try breaking into a house where the resident has a weapon.... "make my day" is in effect in Colorado.... It is legal, and should be mandatory to exterminate those who break and enter someone elses home. I wish that law was in effect in every state....

Door to door nusiance soliciting should be against the law.
