Hi,
Maybe you are talking about the sweetner Aspartame/Nutrasweet. This chemical compound is made from a derivitaive of B-12. However this is not the healthy vitamin that you can take for energy.
A study at the University of Florida showed that large doses of Nutrasweet can cause serious neurological disorders. The study was buried and I can explain why. A nice donation to the school virtually erased all traces of the study.
Nutrasweet was developed by the Monsanto Corporation. You can Google the company and find that their most famous product is called Miracle Grow. They are a chemical company who mostly produces pesticide. They originally developed Nutra-sweet as a bait to attract insects to their poison. Sound tasty?
Best Wishes

Aspartame (NutraSweet) is an artificial sweetener derived from the amino acids aspartic acid and phenylalanine. It is 180 times sweeter than sugar so a little goes a long way, leading to its use in diet sodas. Some studies claim to show links between aspartame and a variety of health problems such as cancer and brain tumors and just as many claim it's safe.
- The only fully proven health risk is that a small percentage of the population has a genetic problem processing phenylalanine, leading to brain damage and mental retardation, so those people must avoid aspartame among other things.
- Aspartame breaks down to methanol (the toxic form of alcohol) in the small intestine, and in turn makes formaldehyde. But so does fruit.
- Aspartic acid naturally occurs in food but is also a neurotoxin and has been linked to brain damage in lab mice.
- Over time, aspartame breaks down into other substances including aspartylphenylalanine diketopiperazine. Some "DKPs" are carcinogenic. Heat accelerates the breakdown process.
- It tastes awful. I don't know how you people stand it.

Seeing as how it is the highest selling soft drink, if there were any significant negative effects, we would be seeing the disorder in epidemic porportions.
Many diet drinks contain aspartame, which contains phenylalanine, and people with certain metabolic disorders, such as PKU should avoid.
As for the hamburger meat in soda, total modern urban myth, backed by pseudo-science. All show, no substance. And as for leaving it in the sun afterward. Leave ANY meat outdoors and worms appear afterward, it is called maggots. What on earth do you think happens to substances that hit the hydrochloric acid in your stomach! The carbonation in soda actually buffers that to some degree, impossible to make it more acidic.

The only scientifically legitimate claim is that under high heat (90some degrees) aspartame breaks down into methanol. Rumor has it that troops in the mideast were getting sick because the diet coke was being stored at high desert temps

All soda is bad for you. Recently there was a study that said the artificial sweetner in diet soda changes they way your body processes things and can make you fatter than regular soda. Also, that stuff causes cancer. Read the label some even admit it.

I had been told that it has the same stuff in it as what is in embalming fluid. Is that what you want in your body?
