God got scared when people built the Tower of Babel. God never got scared or angry when people built the space shuttle.

Does that mean that Heaven is no further than approximately 200m high up in the sky??

Despite what some will tell you, the Tower of Babel is not a metaphor. It was a real event that happened not long after the "Great Flood". Most, if not all non-biblical teachings originated in that city, and spread across the world when the languages were confused. Which explains why so many rulers in completely different parts of the earth claimed to be the son of the "sun god" and built towering temples or pyramids.

Are you trying to make a point, have a question answered, or be irreverent? If you don't believe in an "Almighty" god, then the rest of this answer will probably be lost on you, but I'm going to say it anyways in case you weren't just trying to be irreverent.

God was not frightened by the Tower of Babel. He was angered by the purpose/idea behind it. Nimrod and his followers were not trying to get closer to God, they were trying to defy him. Mankind was supposed to spread across the world and populate it, but they were trying to show that they didn't need God and that there was nothing he could do to stop them from doing whatever it was that they had in mind to do. As was proven by the fact that the tower does not exist today nor does that city, they were quite mistaken. The reason God did what he did was not that he was worried they might "get to heaven", but that the situation of the world would reach the point that it has reached in these modern times long before it's appointed time. There were many things that needed to be done on earth first.
Now we are living in the last days of this system of things, and it makes little difference if man travels to our moon or to another galaxy. Things are set in motion now, mankind is prooving how poorly he can manage his own affairs, and the devil is prooving a similar point.

As regards your original question. There are two words in the original languages that have been translated to our modern tongues to mean heaven. One refers to the vicinity above the ground, our atmosphere/dwelling place of the birds, or even space. The other refers to the realm of existence of the Spirit (non-physical) creatures that is far beyond that of humans, but does not refer to a specific place. It was widely understood in ancient times that "Heaven" was "Up" because they understood the dwelling place of the spirit creatures to be above that of men. So, it is an appropriate translation to say "heaven". Although the wicked fallen angels still exist as "Spirit" creatures, they do not have access to God or any of his faithful spirit children. In that sense, they have been confined to the "Vicinity of the Earth". Since 1914, they have been restricted to influence Only Humankind.

If you were really wanting to know the answer to that question, then I hope that helped. If not, sorry I butted in. Have a great day/evening/morning.

A sin away.

Actually, what if there is no heaven? What if heaven is inside you? Most of the bible and the religious myths of all religions are metaphors. Find the metaphor and learn the lesson.

The energy that runs through all our universe, nature, people, animals, trees.. is the truth, the way, the path, god, It is in you, around you and you can create your own heaven or hell right here where you are.

Heaven is as far away as your spirituality. Some believe, some don't, and God gave us free will... so if you choose not to believe in Heaven, does that mean you will never get there, because you are choosing to believe it doesn't exist?
Faith is believing in something, even... no especially if you can't see it!

Read the tower account carefully, God wasn't scared, man decided to build a tower to heaven, God knew that a tower wouldn't reach into the spirit world, but nonetheless, when they put their minds to it, they accomplished incredible things. Look at the pyramids, petra, stone henge, mayan cities, man has done some amazing things, we are finding out now that our technology is surpassing our ability to repair oversights, hence extinction, global warming. we had to be slowed.

Heaven can be an eternity away, but it can also be so close you can almost touch it.

There is no linear distance between us and heaven.

Heaven is not a geographical location, more a state of mind.

If you live according to God's will then heaven is not too far at all.

the tower of babel is not a literal story, like almost all of the stories in the bible. Its a metaphor. He got angry because they were trying to physically reach him instead of following his rules to reach him.

First, it is NOT heaven that is "far away"" it is us, you and me that is the far away, When Adam and Eve sinned the face to face meetings that they enjoyed with God [Jesus] stopped, it is not a case of distance with God, daniel when he made his prayer while he was still speaking God "caused" him to fly to daniel and he got here before that prayer ended, look it up and tell how long that was, it is said by many that behond the star group known as Orion is where heaven is, so distance as far as God is concerned is not the issue, its our distance by our choices that is the problem, free bible lessons www.itiswritten.com, visit a Seventh Day Adventist Church in your area, God bless. I don't know. I'm not into flying much. Kinda scares me....
I think the whole reason he destroyed the tower was because they thought they were better then God and was going to try to defeat him. That is what he got mad about. I think that was the same day language changed....
