Polytheism, monotheism, atheism...what makes you think that your God, or Gods, empowers you to be any better than anyone else that may not believe in a God but is spiritual nonetheless?

Atheism has no gods, just a believe in one's self. We have nothing to fall back on... we must make good choices because it's the right thing to do, not because we'll be rewarded or punished. We must be good to one another, the earth, animals and everyone who crosses our path.

This empowers me to be better than others that I see, though there's never a reason to say so. I see Christians I know breaking the rules all the time and a few have even said, "I'm going to have to pray about that later."

I have no one to beg forgiveness from but my own conscience.

I'm not better than anyone else because of my beliefs, but having another being to work with, share with, and commune with gives me a sense of belonging. I use the teachings of the Buddha to improve myself and become a better me. I 'worship' several ancient Germanic dieties, but I know that I have to work on myself and not just expect any god or goddess to do all the work for me. That's not how it works. Being completely reliant on a diety to take care of improving the being that you are is just a co-dependant and faulty relationship.

You're assuming that believers in gods consider themselves to be better than religious people who don't believe in gods.

They don't.

Well, some do, but that's the case with every religion or sub-culture that you can think of. There are always jerks who think they're better than other people.

Be the bigger man: ignore it.

Eh?

1) You included atheism in your list of theistic things.

2) My above average capabilities *would* 'entitle' me to think I was better than other people.... but honestly, I can't bring myself to be self-centred enough to think I am better than other people.
