This is a biggie. Get on it, take it exactly as prescribed.

Side effects for BP meds are rare and minor, unless you have really severe problems, and need some really heavy stuff...You might have to go to the bathroom more often if you are using a diuretic, for example.

Your risks are high if you don't do this. You will probably live a normal life if you control this well. If you don't, you may have as little as 10-15 years left (one of my friends died at 45 of a heart attack - didn't take BP meds!).

Yes, I have been on 2 blood pressure medications for several years. I haven't had any side effects and haven't noticed feeling any different, but they do keep my blood pressure under good control. One of them (Atenolol) slows my heartbeat, but the heart rate is still within normal range (it's usually about 60-70 now, instead of in the 80's).

I feel better knowing that I have a lot less risk of having a stroke or heart attack with my blood pressure under good control.

Hope this helps.

When the force of the blood gushing against the walls of the blood vessels (the tiny tubes that carry blood throughout your body) is higher than normal because the blood vessels have either become less able to stretch or have gotten smaller; then the patient is suffering from High Blood Pressure or Hypertension.

I don't personally take any myself, but both my grandma and mom have taken it for years!

Can't speak for grandma, but it hasn't had any side effects for my mom.

Every person is different though....you should talk to you doctor and maybe by viewing your medical history he might be better able to tell you potential side effects.
