You need the Windows Chinese Input Method Editor. It's pretty good. You can set it so you only have to type pinyin, and it enters the characters. I know it has hanzi support aswell.

The software is relatively easy to locate on the net.
Haven't looked it up myself, but it will be there ...
A Hanzi keyboard layout is tricky. I trust you can use it.
This all seems a bit ambitious, but I have an Arabic one which works, so it can be done.
(My Arabic typing is mediocre at best, but it works, so persevere.

Go to Google, find "Nanji Star", download it, and you will be able to write Chinese characters.

If you are window base SW ( win 2k or xp ). you can enable the chinese character encoding.

Do you have homestead windows XP? bypass to regulate Panel > community and Language ideas > Languages > information > Settings > upload and choose the languages you want. that's all there is to it.
