There is no country whose mother tongue is called "patois". As Melissa B said above, a patois is a language that is not the standard language. That's to say it can be a dialect, but it can also be pidgin or creole languages (languages formed when two cultures with different languages come into contact). For example, Jamaican creole or Jamaican English was created by contact between Jamaicans and the British and Americans. The language then is a blend of the two languages. Contrary to what the previous response says, while Jamaican creole is known to foreigners as "patois", that is not the actual name of the language. Oh, and the official language in Jamaica is English.

"Patois" is the French word for dialect.
The language of Haiti is a French dialect and therefore called "patois". On some other Caribbean islands a French dialect is spoken. On St. Lucia for example and there the language is also called "patois".

A patois is a French word that is used to describe a language that is just another form or dialect of a native language, it can be applied to many languages, non of which would be native though. In France, patois is used to describe non-Parisian French with it assuming the view of such languages as being backward, countrified, and unlettered.

A "patois" is not a langage at all.... the exact translated meaning is "slang".... All languages have a slang way of expressing or a "street talk" ... Un patois is associated in the same way as '' slang" language...
Hope this helps...
