...the context below with 'allocated' or 'acquired'?

It is projected that in 2025 the alternative energy will account for 17 percent of the Indonesia’s energy mix, and 5% of which will be in the form of biofuels. More than 5 million hectares of land has been appropriated for that purpose.

Thanks

allocated is the correct word, if the land was already owned, but not yet set aside for a certain use. aquired is the correct word if they bought the land for the specific purpose of using it for the energy thingy

Both would work in this sentence. Howerer, the implication is different. Allocated means that it has been set aside. Acquired means it has been taken into possession. Acquired would probably include but not totally replace appropriated.

Hi,

In real estate.... there is a word in French meaning the Goverment takes land from owners, with or without compensation... the word is... EXPROPRIER...
which would possibly sound like 'expropriated' in English...

The French verb "s'approprier" has the exact same meaning as the verb "stealing" in English....

Hope this helps a little.....

Maybe, maybe not. The government may well have appropriated the land.
