That's easy. If you are exercising, you are gaining muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat. So, though you may look a lot better and thinner, the scale doesn't reflect the fact that you lost fat but gained muscle.

All that you should worry about is how your clothes fit. If pants that were once too tight are now comfortable, then you are accomplishing your goal of getting more fit.
When you exercise you burn calories and fat. You also strengthen and tone your muscles. Muscle weighs more than fat so it isn't unusual to feel and look thinner without the scale showing a downward turn.
Apparently you are doing everything right, so keep it up! Many people diet without exercise and lose weight initially. However, without exercise they tend to hit a plateau and find it difficult to make any progress. Exercise is imperative as it increases your metabolism and helps to burn more fat.
Often people will stop eating anything in order to lose weight. This slows their metabolism and makes the body think it is starving, so it will preserve fat and calories instead of burning them. True, some do lose weight this way but it is far from ideal, and is, in fact very unhealthy.
The way you have approached your weight loss is perfect. You will feel better physically and mentally over the long run. You will also probably be successful in keeping the weight off. Way to go!!!!

You weight the same or more because muscle weighs more than fat. If you are going to the gym and working out, then you should be gaining muscle. Plus it takes time for the muscle to burn the fat away, so for a while you will probably gain because you will have both the muscle and the fat, and then you will start to lose it. Don't worry, keep going. You might also be eating more to substitute for the energy you use while you exercise, so you might want to watch that. Good luck!

I know exactly what you mean because I lost about 3 dress sizes and not that much weight. It actually really bothered me for a while because I wanted to lose weight so bad but because I was going to the gym so often I was building muscle which weighs more than fat. I just don't rely on the scale but rather on the inches I lose..........and who cares if you weigh more than you desire as long as you look and feel great.

Mike, the scale is not always right.
How do your clothes fit?
You mention that you do exercise, what type? Even exercising like walking can build leg muscles which will add weight to a scale but can thin the upper thighs and lower stomach and butt.
Is it possible that you are still getting taller? Height would also add weight, but you would appear to be thinner.
Are you trying to lose weight? If you are not, but your clothes are looser, and you are not getting taller and you feel tired or dizzy, you may want to see a doctor.
If however, you are trying to lose weight, and you feel good, be happy and thank you friends for noticing.

of course it is--you don't have to go to a gym for exercise!! the majority of people I know don't. and yes muscle weighs more than fat so while the scales might not show anything you are gaining muscle and probably looking more toned--can you tell that maybe your clothes fit you differently?

you are becoming toned (with muscle) and making your body appear "fit". Muscle, however, weighs more than fat. So if you lose the fat on ur body and gain muscle, it wont seem like you lost any weight. But, you will appear better looking!

fat weighs less than muscle mass. I have faced that problem all my life (6'+ and 147-155lbs.)
Concentrate on being strong and have faith in your system. Don't worry about it, you are one of the lucky few.

just because your not losing weight doesnt mean your arent losing inches... remember, muscle wieghs more than fat, and takes up less room, so if you burn 10 pounds of fat while lifting weights, you will measure smaller, but possibly weigh more.....
