No. I was diagnosed with an umbilical hernia 10 years ago. They told me there is no need to do surgery unless it began to cause pain. It only hurts if i sleep on my stomach too long or if I poke myself in the bellybutton, cleaning lint out in the shower or whatever.
Another guy I know has a pretty big hernia on his stomach. They aren't doing surgery because it doesn't hurt and it isn't cutting off circulation to intestines or anything. It just looks kind of nasty, like that thing before it pops out of the stomach in the Aliens movies...
Also, some infants are born with hernias that they don't operate on because they close up by themselves as the child grows.
Your doctor will be the only one who can tell you weather or not you need surgery for your hernia. Don't take the advice of lay-people on here when it comes to that. And if you suspect you have a hernia, get it checked out by a doctor and properly diagnosed. It may not be a hernia, it may be something more severe. Or it may, in fact, be a hernia that doesn't hurt and still be cutting off blood supply to something important. or causing a blockage in your intestines... Either way, good luck!

Well, I have an umbilical hernia and I've been told by the doctor that as long as I can still push it back in when it pops out that I'll be ok if I want to postpone the surgery, but as soon as it won't push back in (that's called irreducable) I'll need immediate surgery because that can strangulate and cause fatal problems. I would say we're both better off if we plan a scheduled surgery at our earliest convenience rather than waiting around for something to go wrong with it. But so far I haven't wanted to deal with it.

Hernia Surgery is very safe nowadays. It is very cheap in India. There is one company that is very famous in India that arranges Hernia surgery for foreigners in India. They are called the Forerunners Healthcare.I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and about their patient stories.
I have also read that they arrange financing for american and canadian patients as Hernia surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. The cost savings are incredible. As a doctor i personally believe that your Hernia surgery can be easily handled in India as the quality of healthcare available here is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.
My cousin got her Hernia surgery in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.hope this helps

i've had a hernia that didnt hurt, and i never had surgery for it because my parents were afraid i would be allergic to anesthesia or something, but after i stopped working out and doing sports, in about 6 month it wasnt there anymore, usually that probably wouldnt really work so have the surgery if you have one

Yes I think is does, something to do with your body and thinking of surgery means your not even sure whats going on but you would like to know. Nothing wrong whit going to a doctor and finding what is really happening. Make a good call and you will be O.K. Good Luck.

absolutely.
Do you know what a hernia is? Do you know it could kill you?
A hernia is when part of the intestines pushes thru the abdomen muscles. It is possible that the muscles can cut off the blood supply to that part of the intestines and you won't know it.
It can KILL you!

If you know its a hernia, its NOT likley that the opening in
your muscle wall that is allowing some part of your INSIDES
to
bulge through will heal itself.
Ask one who knows.............A DR>

try asking the doctor.., if it's not hurting right now maybe not, but if it's something that can be aggravated over time then i would say yes to avoid future discomfort and possibly permanent damage
