Pain in the bowel is created when it is stretched laterally rather than longitudinally.. Most cases can be traced to a prolapse of the transverse colon. causing a sharper bend to the descending colon... thus creating a backup of gas. When that accumulation reaches a certain point, pain is the result. Not many things are more painful. Should this be the problem in your case, such a simple thing as assuming a knee chest position can alleviate much of the problem. This allows the prolapse to flow upward (gravity) and opens the flexure of the colon to allow the gas to pass. There are other methods requiring another person to help.

IBS is no stranger to me. I've suffered with it for many years and still do at times. The pain is indescribeable. Nothing works and everything seems to aggravate the situation. Drinking extra water does help. Maybe try and watch the type of foods you eat...for example....spicey....foods with things like raw onions always irritated me. Fatty foods are among the worst. Try things in moderation. I was told by my physician to eat 6 small meals a day to prevent irritation of the bowels with a heavy load of food to deal with. The same also goes for watching what you drink. Do you have any food allergies that might cause you the pain? Carbonated beverages are among the worst. There are also medications you might want to try. I was put on one called Buscopan. It sure helped with the pain and discomfort!

I have had great good luck recommending Peppermint Plus by Enzymatic Therapy to people with IBS. See also Digestive Wellness by Elizabeth Lipski for an excellent discussion of this condition and more ideas on how to deal with it.

I just go diagnosed with IBS and the regime the Dr put me on works great: Two Zelnorm tablets daily (one at night and one during the day), Metamusil in the morning and two tablespoons of Milk of Mag at night. This will aleviate the pressure and cause you to use the bathroom. Zelnorm works pretty well.

I have had this for over 3 years. I gave up on doc's and their meds because it doesn't help me. Though it may help you. I have tried many herbal supplemenrts. Yeast Fighter pills by Twin Lab helped for awhile. Ginger tablets seem to help sometimes. Good luck findinf a food that that is the culprit. I have eliminated EVERYTHING from my diet at one time or another. Food does not make it worse for me. Althogh I hardley eat much anymore. I say a prayer everynight. There's lots a good websites out there that may help you. You will be able to talk to others who have it. Good luck. I hope you get better soon.

I know A LOT of people who suffer with it. The best suggestion I have is getting an over the counter gas pain reliever. I don't know if it will work, but it can't hurt to try

This sounds weird, but for me I have the same thing, a tablespoon of table vinager after my meals helps immensly with the pain. Something with the acid level in vinager helps with the stomache lining acids so the pain is tremendously alot less
