what does Islam say about suicide bombing and killing people?

Question

if islam regards suicide bombing as a sin and unislamic act why the religious clerics do not declare suicide bombers who kill innocent civilians who are in no way related to their government's policies , as unislamic and award punishment as they issued fatwa to rushdi and taslima nasreen?

some religious clerics issued death punishment fatwa to rushdi and taslima nasreen, if suicide bombing is really unislamic why the same sort of fatwa awarding death punishment to suicide bombers is not issued?

some people answered that islamic clerics denounced terrorism,but they did not issue a fatwa announcing death warrant to those suicide bombers as they issued to rushdi and taslima nasreen.

Well Its important to note that there is no central authority on islam. Islam is a religion where its authority is from the quran and hadeeth and scholar promulgate their beliefs based on proof from quran and hadeeth. The fact that their is no central figure makes it to where no authoritative statement can be made, not that i am saying clerics condone it. no not at all. but if the pope were to go up and pass an edict that would recieve a lot more attention then if you local pastor did. so in islam it takes numbers to recieve attention. Now many clerics do condemn the terrorisms acts but people like bin laden and others tend to get more attention because they are radical statements. Its important to note that bin laden has never recieved any scholarly teaching. Nevertheless, if we were to suppose a pastor was to make a statement such as its ok to kill homosexuals. even though ninety nine others would condemn it that one pastor will recieve all the spotlight because its newsworthy whereas what the others say isn't. just the way things are i guess.

There are many fatwas against terrorism. I went to talk by the Muslim author Reza Aslan during which someone asked the same question, and he listed about 20 fatwas by major islamic organizations against terrorism off the top of his head.

To give just one example, the Fiqh Council of North America said the following in their recent fatwa against terrorism:

“There is no justification in Islam for extremism or terrorism”

and

“Targeting civilians’ life and property through suicide bombings or any other method of attack is haram — or forbidden.”

First of all, Peace to You. also wanna Thank u for enquiring abt my religion. Well, its good to c that u have some knowledge abt Islam. Suicide is indeed a Sin as its root (hopelessness) is a Sin. In Islam to kill an innocent is equivalent to killing the whole of human-kind, and saving one human is like saving the whole of human-kind.
Why it is Not declared 'Prohibited'? well actually i have no real answer for that. but, its No different than any other terrorism, and the same thing is americans doing in Iraq and Afghanistan.

u know, islam is a creepy religion these days. there r sooo many islamic extremists aka radical muslims in the middle east, islam is defintely getting a bad name. this sparked craig winn to write a book called Prophet of Doom, which shows evidence of how the qu'ran (koran) has bold faced evidence that allah wants muslims to kill infidels, or anyone who isnt muslim---most muslims will deny this, however, they r not standing up and talking down upon the suicide bombers, the oppression of women, what happened on 9/11 and the recent thwarted terror plot at london heathrow that would have been bigger than 9/11---so that has to make u question the roots of the islamic religion , im not racist in any way, i have a few muslim friends, and i know there r good muslims in the world (i live in the metro detroit area, a city near detroit, michigan called dearborn has the highest population of muslims in the WORLD--outside of the middle east of course--and i have gone to restaurants there w/o worry--however like i said, the good muslims aren't standing up and talking about why there r SOOOOO SOOOO SO many extremists---once again, this makes u question.

as a recapitulation, i suggest reading the book Prophet of Doom by Craig Winn-- i downloaded the entire book from his website prophetofdoom.com for free but i havent read the whole thing yet, i think it would be better if i just bought a copy, but the borders and barnes and noble near me were out at the time. this book is all fact, real surah numbers (verse numbers) and everything--not out of context and straight from the koran, he even says the arab people who translated the koran to english had to tone it down because it was sooo bad. however, u should at least read the book and then form an opinion because knowledge from good sources is the best thing to have

((Indeed, whoever (intentionally) kills himself, then certainly he will be punished in the Fire of Hell, wherein he shall dwell forever)), [Bukhaaree (5778) and Muslim (109 and 110).

However, one who is ignorant and does not know, and assumes his action was good and pleasing to Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala), then we hope Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) forgives him for that which he did out of (ignorant) ijtihaad, even though I do not find any excuse for him in the present day. This is because this type of suicide is well known and widespread amongst the people, so it is upon the person to ask the people of knowledge (scholars) regarding it, until the right guidance for him is differentiated from the error.

And from that which is surprising, is that these people kill themselves despite Allaah having fordbidden this, as He (Subhaanahu wa Ta'aala) says:

{And do not kill yourselves. Surely, Allaah is Most Merciful to you}, [Soorah an-Nisaa., Aayah 29].
