Has anyone had any experience with the Ritalin patch? Is it as effective, what about side effects?

As a Pediatrician I have prescribed the patch for a few children- especially if they can't swallow pills well.
its major advantage is that it can be put on while the child is still sleeping and works first thing in the morning. It also last 2-3 hours after it is removed at night.
Some drawbacks-- there is an incidence of allergic reactions to the patch--the skin behind it turns pink and itchy and can't be used.
Also right now the maximum dose is only 30 mg of Ritalin/day and some children/adults may need stronger dosages.

Shire has a web site at http://www.daytrana.com/

which has more information
