That sounds like a stress fracture. It's not like a normally broken bone... it's more like a crack resulting from a strain. Difficult to see on an X-ray too. But your symptoms definitely warrant a visit to the doctor. Ice it down in the meantime to ease the swelling and keep off it as much as possible.

Please tell me you had good, comfortable, shoes with shock absorbing soles on whenever on the treadmill. Is the pain worse after you've been off your foot for awhile?
You may have plantar faciitis which is a tearing and inflammation of the flexor part of your foot (the facia) that goes across your foot, up the arch and to the heel.
Get some New Balance shoes and make sure they are some of the better ones for cross country training or running (even if you are going to walk). You can even get these in business casual black or brown. Get a pair with an insert that has a heel cup or take out the NB inserts and use a pair of inserts from the foot department of a store that have the heel cups.
A few times a day, when you can, roll a can of frozen orange juice slowly back and forth with your sock covered foot to relieve inflammation. Always wear shoes when walking around the house and don't go outside without them as the concrete or ground will worsen the condition.
In a week or two it should start feeling better but once you've had it, you will always have to be careful to have good padding under your affected foot when walking.

Seems to me that you have injured your foot, possibly a contact injury because of walking too much at a time or from improper footwear. You may also have sprained your ankle. Body parts get heated in the wake of an injury, say a blow or inflammatory response. Someftimes, if you walk too fast, your foot can get numb. the, you can inujure it and won't even know it because of the exercise-induced numbness (called exercise compartmental syndrome). You should stop walking immediately until the leg heals. If it doesn't improve, see your orthopaedist.

It could be a fracture, blood clot, infection. In any case would you mind getting your foot amputated? if not, get off your stupid computer and go to the doctor NOW!!!
It is NOT plantar fascitis as though you have pain on the bottom of the foot, pain and swelling on the TOP of the foot is inconsistent with that

You should never walk for three weeks... you need to take more breaks! But seriously, you should get an x-ray of the foot. You may then need an MRI to see what the soft tissue damage is. It may be a sprain, or something more serious. Nobody on Yahoo! will be able to tell you for sure.

You could have broken a toe. You could have an infected toe or toenail. you need to stop the treaadmill now until you have seen a doctor. Make sure you get an x-ray if your doctor doesn't find any infection and a referral to an orthopedic surgeon (for insurance purposes).

Three weeks is too long a time on a treadmill. No wonder you are experiencing some stress relating injuries.
Try limiting your next session to 20 minutes or so.

I think it's best you seek medical help. It could be due to over-exertion or maybe you are wearing the wrong footwear. It'd be better to reduce walkin to a minimal and seek professional advice. Get well Soon!
