If masturbation was a sin, it'd be the 11th commandment.
"THOU SHALT NOT TOUCH THYSELF" on a stone tablet, just picture that. Now picture Moses wanting to carry it down from the mountain, but having no free hands to do so! :)

The act of can contribute to problems in the marriage bed - not being easily satisfied, or satisfied at all, unless you do it yourself. Can you imagine how that would make your spouse feel?
The fantasies also present a problem - they ain't real. How would your husband, for instance, feel about trying to live up to a Fabio or whoever?
Sin? Don't think so. Generally not a good idea though. Save it for your spouse, & you can enjoy it together.
Besdies, the whole idea of celibacy is to learn how to overcome lust, right? Masturbation kinda defeats that purpose, huh?

The bible doesn't say anything about masturbation specifically... that is, it doesn't mention that actual act. It just says something vague like "don't be sexually immoral" and "only do sexual things if it leads to making more babies for the Lord". So... it's probably a "sin" but... psychologists will tell you it's totally natural and even quite helpful when it comes to sexual discovery and personal understanding of ones body and sensations.

I think it could be a sin if it were done a certain way.
Under certain circumstances it could adversely affect the way we handle sexual issues. However that would be unusual. Normally it provides a healthy release that is reasonably safe.
I'd say like other things moderation is the key to whether or not it would be a problem.

I can see where the pastor may have been coming from, but I don't think he intended to give license to use it for self gratification. For instance, if a woman were married but couldn't enjoy her husband's attention, perhaps she would need to do a little self discovery, but this is only for the purpose of improving her relationship with her husband.
Self gratification is not how we were designed. We were built to be social critters. I think God did this to teach us how to be intimate with Him.

I think it is better to take "matters" into your own hands than to obey the ridiculous taboos. there is no harm done when performing this activity. It is pleasurable and it rids the body of unnecessary tension.
Why did god make everything within arm's length if we are not allowed to touch?

Concerning false teachers:
"Knowing this, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts..."
(2 Peter 3:3)
" Now the Spirit speaks expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, speaking lies in hypocrisy..."(1Tim.4:1)

I don't think there is anything wrong with it at all!
If it is some kind of a sin it's a small one compared to having sex.
I think God will forgive this.
It may be considered a sin because it LEADS to bigger sins. (pornography, etc.) so just be sure that it doesn't control your life, that it doesn't become something you are addicted to, and that it doesn't lead to sex.

well masturbation is perfectly natural. I asked this once to a catholic priest and he told me that God cant mind because it is a way to suppress unholy urges of lust.

If God existed and didn't approve, well, my blankets would be going to hell, every last square inch of 'em, that's for sure.
