Throughout my childhood, I had very blue eyes. As I entered my teen years, I noticed my eyes were more blue-green than just blue. And now that I'm in my 30s, it seems like they have been green-blue for a long time, emphasis on the green.
I also know some folks with brown eyes who swear that the shade of brown has lightened or darkened slightly with time.
Certainly it's possible for eyes to change a bit, but I wondered how common (or uncommon) it might be? Now of course someone with blue or green eyes isn't suddenly going to have brown, or vice versa, but it seems that some people's eyes are prone to "shifting" within their natural shade.
Anyone? %-)

Don't count on that last part...Evidence my oldest brother Dennis:
He was born with eyes of such a dark brown they looked black. By the time he got married at 20 they were medium chocolate brown. He moved to British Columbia from Ontario shortly afterwards, and I didn't see him for 10 years. When he came back to visit, his eyes were dark purple. (I am NOT lying here!) I noticed the colour change, and asked him what was going on. He said that the change was so gradual that he really hadn't noticed.
So five more years go by, and he's back in Toronto again, at a conference. He comes to visit, and his eyes are now emerald green. (This is long before the advent of coloured contacts.) By this time I am super jealous, because all I have are muddy brown eyes that never change.
I haven't seen Dennis myself since then, but I have gotten pictures from him and his second wife over the years. While his second family was small, Dennis's eyes were blue. In the pictures where his kids are teenagers, his eyes are grey. So I was talking to him on the phone last year, and I asked him what colour his eyes are now. He says his wife calls them "crystal" but he thinks they have no colour.
To top it all off, he's also the only one of my brothers that has overabundant eyelashes. They are long and thick, and he looks like he's wearing three pairs of falsies on each eye.

I've heard of this but it has never happened to me.
My eyes have been blue since I was born.
I've heard of babies' eyes changing color in the first few months of life, but haven't seen it happen that much.
I would think it more likely to happen with the non-recessive eye colors such as brown, green or hazel, and it would be very unusual for a blue-eyed person to change eye color.
Reason for this is that the dominant gene colors would be more likely to include several different pigments and those combinations could change.
Recessive gene color--blue--would not be likely to include a variety of different color eye pigments so would be less likely to change.
Most colors other than brown and blue would probably involve a mixing of different pigments, and I would expect those to be most subject to changes.

Yes. I was born with shocking bright blue eyes that stayed that way until I was 3 and then they turned green. But up close, you can see it's blue with a ring of amber around the pupil. And they are slightly different colors. My 3yr old daughter's eyes are a very light brown and they seem to be getting lighter and lighter and starting to lean towards hazel.

My friends call my eyes "mood eyes". If I'm really mad they are completely green. If I'm really happy they are completely blue. Any other time they are their original color, which is literally, the top half of each eye is blue, the bottoms halves green. My eyes looked brown one time a few years back, but it hasn't happened since.

My eyes were ice blue, but with time they have darkened to a sort of soft blue-grey colour from sun exposure. Eyes darken in sunlight, just like skin, and as with skin, the lighter you are, the more the difference shows.

Wow I've never noticed that. I hope that's not true because I really like the colour of my eyes and they tend to have carried down through the generations on my mother's side. I guess it could be true though, things change all the time.

It's a natural thing. Eye colours are because of some thingy thing in ur eye which, when light goes in, would make ur eye have colours. I guess as ppl age, the thingy thing would also change? maybe the amount or something???? O.O
