It usually takes 3-4 weeks for the pills to start helping. If the pills you got still aren't helping you after that long, go back to the psychiatrist and tell him. He will give you another type of pills or a different dose.
It usually takes a bit of time to find the right anti-depressants for you and the rigth dose and it takes time for the medicines to start working. The same type of anti-depressants doesn't help everyone and it's very common that the first type of pills you get are not necessarily the right for you, it takes time to see what helps each individual.
So give medicines another go, tell your psychiatrist that those pills you got aren't helping. You might want to try out therapy as well, that has helped a lot of people.
Good luck! I hope you will feel better soon. I know what you're going through, I used to be seriously depressed myself, but I'm cured now.

I have scars on my arm from where I cut myself. I used to be a razor-blade cutter a lot. I understand that bizarre desire to cut oneself. It felt better than the emotional pain I was in. At least I knew I was alive when I felt the pain. Other times I was so out-of-it psychologically, that I really didn't feel much of the cutting at all. Talk about being ill....
After I got on the right meds and had some shock treatment for my major depression disorder, I no longer had the desire to be a self-abuser anymore. I wouldn't dream of hurting myself now.
Life is short enough...cry out for help in another way until you get it. Even if you just cut yourself, you can end up accidentally killing yourself -- ending your life on earth! There are GOOD things in your life, yet to be found. It's worth hanging on....

Definitely talk to a counselor, pastor, parent or some older person who you trust. Remember that in spite of your situation GOD LOVES YOU SO MUCH! Don't let your emotions about life get to you, i've felt like committing suicide before but what stopped me from doing it was remembering all the people who loved me and remembering that God has placed me on this earth for a purpose:to serve him, to enjoy life, to pass hard tests (emotional tests, tests in school, social tests etc...,etc), to love, and to do his will, and to learn. I don't know if you believe in God or not, but whoever you are.......I want you to know that God is real and when you feel sad or depressed just pray, turn on a POSITIVE song: try something by Switchfoot, or Michael W. Smith, Kirk Franklin or Aaron Shrust. When it seems like you can't bear the troubles of life the answer is not in cutting yourself or feeling sorry the answer is in Jesus Christ.......he may not answer right when you ask, but he'll be there right on time. Soo please I hope you can find some hope in this message...........don't worry. Let Go of your past and look forward to your future...........don't cut your life off because good things are ahead of you. Anymore questions for me? Post one up and I'll answer ASAP!

If you are thinking about suicide and you are cutting, you definitely need to get professional help. Find a suicide hot line in your area and talk to someone from the hot line. They can direct you in getting the help you need...like a psychiatrist or mental health center. Please get help...it will be the best thing you could do for yourself. Why feel sad when you can be glad. Best wishes! Peace!

the first step in solving a problem, is recognizing and admitting you have one...good job!!!! step one!!!! Clinically, you feel like you don't have much (if any) control in your life...somebody else makes all of your decisions (whether it's actually true or not is irrelevant...that's how you feel!!!!)> you cut yourself because that gives you something that you can control...but, you know it's not a healthy thing to do. suicide thoughts are usually because you feel helpless that your situation can/will change. soooo....you should speak to a professional and analyze those feelings and try to make changes to be able to make decisions that effect you. at least, talk to somebody, PERIOD!!! sometimes life can feel overwhelming, but everything changes. try to create a plan to change the things that make you upset and try to add more of the things that make you happy. good luck...

You are suffering from a very common disorder called Depression and you need medical help. Lots of people have it but do yourself and your family a favour and have the courage to ask for help. Believe me it is worth it. You do not have to live this way when there is treatment available and it is nothing to feel ashamed about.

I always wonder why people would want to kill themselves, there are alot of people out there that probably have it worse then you i dont know your situation but in a way dont you feel like commiting suicide is like being a coward, its like your just trying to take the easy way out, why dont you think about all the people that love you dont be selfish why dont you stop and think about the pain that they are going to go through when your gone, in my opinion you are being selfish and you should also get help.
