i read this analogy in CS Lewis' "mere christianity"....and here's what i got from it:
if we are all ships, sailing along the open sea.... instead of focusing so much on Rules and Regulations (ie, Do Not Run Into Eachother!), why don't we focus on Ourselves, taking care of our condition, making sure we have maps, having good crew and vision, *so that* we will already be in the best condition and clearest sight to NOT run into eachother...there will always be storms, but if we continue to do our best, it will be ok.
focusing on the "rules" of not bumping into eachother doesnt really help when a lot of the boats are broken down, in bad condition, don't have right tools to "see" clearly etc.....

also if u keep up "your boat", u won't WANT to run it into other boats. therefore, you will already be following the rules.

Well, "the rules" were given to us from One who allows our boats to continue on our journeys. It is advisable that we focus on ourselves enough that we do follow the rules, have good maps, crew and vision, but so many of the other ships do not have these things and thus are very likely to get lost or destroy our ships. So, when we see other ships in bad condition, at some point we need to take the focus off ourselves and help build others up too.

As I try to analyze your analysis, I came to the conclusion that it's a poor analogy. or maybe your analysis is not succint. There are contradictory statements. and it simply doesn't make sense even with all the maps, equipment
stable and good upkeep condition of the boats .Altho' it does point to a safe journey .

Sorry. Can't see where C.S. Lewis' actual prose starts and your analysis begins. Or vice verse.
There are a lot of ailing boats out to sea, that's for sure.

AND I THANK GOD FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE,
I OWE MY LIFE TO HIM
FOR JESUS IS THE LIGHTHOUSE,
AND FROM THE ROCKS OF SIN;
HE HAS SHONE A LIGHT AROUND ME
THAT I COULD CLEARLY SEE
AND IF IT WASN'T FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE,
WHERE WOULD THIS SHIP BE?
AND IF WASN'T FOR THE LIGHTHOUSE,
WHERE WOULD THIS SHIP BE?

For me is nonsense, except for the part of sailing along the open sea. I like that.

I have to admit, I have trouble making any sense of this. Are you looking for the section 'Boating and Sailing'?

MEANS .. CLEAR MINDED, WELL PREPARED SPIRITUALLY ,AND IN YOUR OWN MINDS....BEING SO YOU WILL BE READY TO HANDLE ANYTHING .... THE BOATS SEEM TO SYMBOLIZE ALL OF THE PEOPLE S THOUGHTS AND THE LIFE YOU ARE LIVING....STEERING CLEAR OF OBSTACLES IS EASY IF YOU HAVE NONE IN YOUR MIND AND HEART........IF ALL YOU FOCUS ON IN LIFE IS NOT RUNNING INTO EACH OTHER ((BECAUSE OF DIFFERENCES)) THEN WHERE ARE YOU GOING ON THE SEA OF LIFE...OR SOMETHING TO THAT EFFECT...WHATEVER

Analogies can indeed be very complicated. I suggest you encode the original version. I am afraid I am not getting the whole picture. :)

Since Christianity makes no stinking sense, they have to invent rediculous analogies to sell it. That's what I get from it.
