I don't fear them. Incidentally, not all pagans worship the same things.
Some pagans are more benign in their beliefs than others. We tend to be afraid of things we don't know much about.
I'm a Christian, and I obviously disagree with paganism, but do not fear nor dislike pagans.

Because the Catholics in the Dark Ages had to come up with an idea of what evil is and the only thing could come up with was the opposite of everything good and anything Pagan.

When the early Christian church started to use allot of the pagans rites and rituals to try and lure them into converting to Christianity. it did not go over as well as they thought it would. As most keep practicing the older religion when not in Church.
Then the Church started using some of their images of Deities male and female to show that they worshiped the Devil or Satan.
This stereo type persisted until recent times with the U.S. supreme Court declaring that they fit the definition of a real legitimate religion .And people stared to rediscover the practice.

They automatically assume the devil and sacrafices are involved. They fear what they do not understand! Personally, I find Pagans to be very interesting people. I like talking to them.

People fear what they don't know, especially when they think power and magic will be used in a negitive way or towards tehm.
What they don't know is they have the power, they can call on Gods and Goddess, that the magic is within themselves.

Christians fear us because their favorite book basically tells them to..... I think atheists are more likely to think we're silly than to fear us, since we're not tryin to convert anyone. I'm not so sure that people of other faiths fear pagans.

People tend to fear the unkown or what is not familiar to them. Since paganism is not universally accepted, society tends to label those that participate in it as deviant.

Huh????
The thought of anyone being afraid of me makes me chuckle (and it would make them chuckle too). Why do you feel that people fear pagans? Are you getting your information from a reliable, universal source? Perhaps it's just a local or individual thing.

Hundreds of years of stereotypes, horror movies, anti-Pagan passages in the Bible...
I still think Nas put it best: "People fear what they don't understand/hate what they can't conquer/guess it's just a theory of man."

People fear what they don't understand. The Burning Times struck a lot of fear into Europeans, and that's how witches became associated with the devil, even though witches don't practice satanism. Also, it doesn't help that Hollywood still stereotypes witches as in "The Blair Witch Project."
