I read all the answers, and while I agree CKC will allow you to register a rock as a pure-blood breed if you have the money.....there are some cases that the only way you can get papers on your dog is through them, simply because they are cheap and lax on their requirements.

Example #1, you purchase an expensive AKC dog from a breeder, but before you could get the transfer slip, the breeder (God forbid) dies. If someone in her family doesn't find the papers, you have no way to prove the dog is AKC registered unless you fork out a lot more money for DNA test.

Example #2, the breeder gets inspected by AKC, (if you have ever been inspected by those sanctimonious snot nose worms be very glad. Due to the fact that they NEVER make any mistakes, the breeder is not allowed to make any.) and fail the inspection, until they are back in good standing you are unable to register a dog you got from them.

Example #3, You are scatter brained like I am and you loose the papers during a move, You have no idea how to get in contact with the breeder (all that info was with your papers, that you can't find)

Example #4, My personal favorite, Hurricane Katrina drowned all you records. OH yes, AKC will be so happy to replace them all.....at only $50.00 an hour for research.
This I know all about because I did live right outside Biloxi, Mississippi. So if you are ever out fishing or swimming and several dog registration papers float by, they may be mine!!!!!~~~~

CKC charges $5.00 per dog for breeders and register the litters free, do not charge seperate for each transfer.

So not everyone that has CKC registered dogs are the cess pool of the breeding community. It does not make you a back yard breeder or a puppy mill.

Any one that raises dogs know you do not make a fortune, so you may have to go with what is the most affordable at the time.

O I AM SO SORRRY THAT YOU GOT SUCKED INTO THAT WHOLE THING. AKC IS THE ONLY KENNEL CLUB WORTH A HOOT.
DID YOU KNOW THAT CKC EVEN EXCEPTS MIXED/HALF BREEDS? YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. AN AKC DOG IS ALWAYS PURE, AND MUCH CLOSER TO THE LOOK OF THE BREED THAN CKC. THEY ARE STRICT BECAUSE THEY ARE GOOD.

Well, unless you are talking about the Canadian Kennel Club, No. The continental kennel club will register pretty much anything and the registration means nothing. ConKC is manily used by 'breeders' whose dogs can't qualify for an AKC registration.

Sorry.

Example 2 - AKC uses PERFORMANCE standards (at least until PAWS passes). They pretty much will pass anyone as long as the facility is clean and the dogs look healthy.

Your other scenarios could be avoided if you only knew the parents of your dog or even just who bred it.

That totally depends on which CKC you are referring to. If it was the Canadian Kennel Club, yes they are a well established dog club! However, if it was the Continental Kennel Club(which I suspect it probably was) steer clear. They are basically a puppy mill club so the puppy mills can register puppies. They also register mixes like labradoodles and wolf hybrids which in my opinion is completely unethical on both accounts. AKC, UKC or Canadian KC is the way to go dpending on what you expect to gain and put into the dog registering experience!

Continental Kennel Club is a sham registry that caters to puppymills and backyard breeders. Since the dog's ancestry is not verified, the "papers" are worthless. No reputable breeder would EVER register with them.

Sure.
Now EVERYBODY ***KNOWS*** that you have JUNK dogs & will be able to STAY the*blank* AWAY!!
CKC is FAKE!!! It *should* be read as the CON KRAP CLUB!!!

They "register"(pardon while I PUKE)MUTTS/MONGRELS!!

Made up by crooks ONLY to SCAM the ignorant & GULLIBLE into thinking they have REAL dogs!! Used by PUPPY MILLS & those who are UN-ABLE to comply w/AKC's STRICT regulations!

Thomas Tusser said, "A fool and his money are soon parted".

If it made you happy, it was a good choice..but it is worthless registration.. They are easy to register with, as they have no real requirements, and offer nothing in return for your money..Just a piece of paper.
