Since the flood of illegal immigrants into this country is driven by employment, doesn't it make sense to remove that as an incentive? How about if you get caught knowingly hiring an illegal alien for the second time, you lose your business? I'd think that if you own 1000 acres in Napa, or the largest construction company in Texas, or a hotel in Manhattan, this would be a strong incentive. We'll give the person who rats you out a cut, to reduce enforcement expenses. An illegal maid or gardener? Lose your house. Hide them in your church? Ok, keep the church, but you lose your tax-exempt status forever. Does anyone think the flood will continue when we can say honestly, there's nothing for you here? Oh, for a first conviction? Just a real detailed description of what you stand to lose if you don't mend your ways....

Concur wholeheartedly. Having lived in California I can say I saw/experienced firsthand the impact - both from a cheap labor force to the impact on the social systems. Devastating.....seriously, where's the study that tracks the metrics of the illegals. It's not 'cheap labor' who are you kidding - for whom? pay for the border patrols, interrogation, shipping them back, processing, ESL classes in school, learning disabilities; behavioral problems; supporting two languages albeit 'unofficially'. It's not 'cheap labor' - it's tactical to think it's cheap. And if we do NOTHING, the tide will continue to grow. Dem or Rep - we need to crack down severely. There is a 'process' - it's not like there isn't a 'legal' way to come into the country. They just don't want to 'wait' - well too bad. We can just 'sneak' into Hong Kong or 'sneak' into Switzerland. There is a legitimate process...if that's what's broken let's fix the 'process' and not turn a blind eye. It doesn't work with raising kids and it sure doesn't work with illegals.

I agree with you in principle, I believe that business owners should pay the same price that drug dealers do, they have caused infinitely more damage than pot dealers.

On the other hand I believe we have gotten carried away with forfeiture and have stopped respecting property rights.

I believe the answer is mandated minimum prison sentences for those who hire illegals. I do like your thinking on the matter. Either way the illegals would walk home if the market for their labor dried up.
