Larger breed dogs do have less of a life expectancy than your smaller breed dog. But if you keep up on yearly check ups with your vet, and feed the approriate food, you will have a dog around for about 10-15 years on an average.

This depends alot on how large your german shepherd and what 'lines' it comes from. Adult german shepherds can vary from 75-120 pounds. That's a huge difference in size. Breeding and line type can influence longevity as well. Normally, around 8-12 years. The American lines , while getting better healthwise, have more health issues and usually dont live as long as their european counterparts who are bred to a more exact breed standard. There are so many variables but 8-12 is the norm.

The bigger the dog, the shorter the life span...but 11 to 14 years would be my guess. My last Australian Shepherd lived two weeks shy of 15. Expect the same with my present one, same breed. These are pups in the 55 lb. range.

On average about 10 years, depending on the food/nutrition and care. Better food and nutrition will help alot to lengthen the lifespan. My shepherd lived to be almost 15 years old, and was very healthy up to the end before dying of cancer related problems.

Dogs that size usually about 8-12 years. Probably more the latter. We had one, think he was around 11 or 12. Ended up with cancer and hip dysplasia.......

8-12 years...with the proper nutrition and weight. They need excercise and a "job" that they can do everyday...like getting the paper - guarding the house - watching the kids/other dogs! And lots of love...lots and lots!
