Addiction is when a person indulges in something that takes over that persons life. The person becomes dependent or even a prisoner to what ever his/her addiction is. Addiction has two components: physical dependency, and psychological dependency. A person can be addicted to almost anything. There are people who are addicted to drugs, gambling, work, sex, alcohol, even chocolate bars and much more. Check your family history for addictive personalities. Some believe addiction is an enate behavior while others believe its a learned process.

There are physical and psychological addictions. Physical addiction as with heroin and nicotine happen where the body actually has changes with the absence of the drug causing sometimes severe withdrawal reactions when the drug is denied to the body. With Psychological addictions the body reacts as if in a panic state without the drug or circumstance.
