Yes, but still treatable, and still possible to reach a viral clearance status. The fact that you know your genotype is a sign that your Doctor is on the ball. The peg-elated interferon w/ribavarin is working well with a lot of people with genotype 1a.
The treatment can be a rough road for people (i suggest taking an anti-depressant), but it's worth it if you clear the virus. Even if you don't clear the virus, you are still healing and resting the liver while on the medicine. And I don't reccomend herbs, unless you want to not do interferon. All the Herbs, like milk thistle, etc , will do is help "maintian" Liver health. They will NOT clear the virus, and anyone who says it will is full of **** and trying to sell you snake oil. Stay with mainstream medicine with this one. It works. I am now 5 years post interferon treatment with a complete non-detetcable virus(albeit Genotype 2b). Good luck to ya.

It has a lower sustained response rate than genotypes 2 & 3, but many people I know are becoming sustained responders. Without the treatment, your disease will go on to progress. I have been clear of HCV for 6 years now; treatment was worth it! Then the pegylated interferon was not yet available and the side effects were worse than today. If your going to treat, be mentally prepared and in a positive mind set to beat the virus. You can do it. Best wishes.

When I belonged to a liver support group (I've since moved away), they advocated getting treatment because even if it didn't cure you, it could slow down the disease enough to give you a longer live span, and perhaps better treatments will come along.
I was diagnosed and cured before genotyping, but I believe every type has a possiblility for remission. If your's is in it's earliest stages, there may not be as much damage and you could have a fighting chance.
Wish they had the pegolated interferon when I was taking it! I took daily shots for two and a half years, PLUS weekly Leukine shot for my white blood cell count. OUCH!
Good luck and God bless whoever you're referring to.

sorry to say, but yes. if you have never been treated before (naive patient is the term) chances are with interferon and ribavirin you have a chance of responding!
do not fall victim to herbal remedies, however, milk thistle will lesson the burden on the liver (only take it after you speak with the doc and don't take it a week or two before labs as it can interfere with true readings)
no flushing, cleansing ect. either as it can do more harm than good and since hcv has many bi-directional diseases, could be potentially dangerous.
a good source of info hepatitis c-objectives, yahoo groups

Hepatitis C (not good) i'm unfamiliar with the version even with the undeniable fact that it really is a genotype, the most problem-free contained in the U. S.. it received't kill you yet think ofyou've got it for existence and it is going to reduce what you could artwork in because it really is a blood born contagion. examine the links. I realized something in doing this analyze. It sounds like they're in direction of blockading Hep C than i concept.
