Not traffic/signal lights, but the ones that actually light up PARTS of the street at dark. Cars already have head lights to see at night, people walking should use flashlights.

Street lights are seen as a public safety measure, prevents people from being snuck up on at night. trust me, without streetlights, cities get scary-dark at night

Are you crazy? Every mugger in the city would lie in wait. I like to see before I am mugged so I can describe him later.
Seriously, Crime would rise if the streets were dark to hide criminals. The police would be less safe, even death row keeps lights on 100% of the time - day & night for safety reasons.
Lights are good & darkness is bad.

Streetlights have been used long before electricity when they were street lamps. People could have very well walked around with lanterns, but the flood lighting provides security for pedestrians. You don't often see streetlights in rural areas, because crime is lower and your suggested alternatives would work just fine.

Street Lights are necessary because they are a basic necessity for living. Without street lights, you could not drive easily at night time.

no they are not a waste of money cuz i'm scared of the dark and when i go walking at night i need the lights to be there,...,,....,,,..,,,, but i do use a flashlight too...........

YOU GOT TO BE KI DDING, A FEW MONTHS AGO I WENT TO VIST MY SISTER IN PENNSYLVANIA, WE WERE TRAVELING AT NIGHT AND THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ON HIGHWAY MAN EVERYTHING BEHIND US JUST DISAPPEARED IT SCARED THE **** OUT OF US IT WAS LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF A STEPHEN KING MOVE YESSSSSSSSS WE NEED STREET LIGHTS, BECAUSE THE HEAD LIGHTS DID'NT HELP.

No. You must not walk much, at night. They help when driving a car, too.
