Sealed will get you the best response and sound quality. Ported, bandpass and vented are all names for essentially the same thing. Ported will give you more effective sound, but does require a larger box to sound correct.

more than anything, GET A CORRECTLY SIZED BOX. Not all boxes work with all subs. correct sizing is a HUGE factor. kicker should have the info on their website.

www.howstuffworks.com has a great article on box choice. go read it, and decide for yourself.

your subwoofer by itself basically makes no sound at all. it needs the box b4 any wattage or power comes into play, the box is like a baseball bat to a baseball player, without it he can still do something but only about 1/1000 of what he can do with a bat.
a box is the resonating chamber, like the box part of an accoustic guitar. it really depends on the space you have to put your sub to specify an exact box, usually ported are a tad bigger therefore need more space per sub. porting is like the circular hole in the top of an accoustic guitar, they let the already vibrating sound waves out so that they can go to your ears. also, you'll want to make sure your box is open enough to support good airflow when really crankin the system. if you dont, you'll end up with a really blurry and off-tone bass sound.
u cn go to ur local best buy and ask them for more help since they actually ahve stereos set up there that they can use to show you the differences. they are extremely helpfull. especially now with geek squad lol. hope you find the right box!!!
