Consider brands like Olympia, Fuji, Canon, HP and Pantax. Now do a product comparison search for the best price along with reading some reviews.
If you can find an SLR for a price that you can live with (these are typically more expensive) you will have the most control over your pictures because you will be looking through the lens instead of a viewfinder.
Try to compare in person at a local store to really find out the ease-of-use nature of different cameras.

Antoine gave you good advice if you are looking for one of the fine superzoom cameras. But- if you're looking for something pocketable- I'm not sure that you've gotten good answers yet to your question. If you take indoor photos a lot, and hate using a red-eye creating flash that washes out faces and leaves you with black backgrounds... you're not alone.
The choice gets narrowed down very quickly. There is only one compact camera on the market that has sufficient light sensitivity to take indoor photos without a flash. It's the Fuji F30. (and now a newer, less expensive version that has a few less features but the same image quality, the F20). It's 6Mp, not 7, however it has image quality, sharpness and resolution that easily rivals and often exceeds the 7Mp ones.
It's also small, cute, reasonably priced, fast, has a great LCD and has a battery that lasts 580 shots (the best in the biz). Review below.
The other choice you have is to get a camera with image stabilization. The Canon SD700IS is a very good camera- but is a bit pricey. It has about 2 stops lower light gathering ability than the fuji- but it has image stabilization that will allow you to hand hold the camera at 2 stops longer shutter speeds. OK as long as the subject isn't moving. I like the Panasonic FX01 as well- although an updated version of the camera is just coming out- the FX07 and FX50- which both look even better. The Panasonic has IS, as well as a nice 28mm wide angle- which is just a terrific feature.

I'd go for a stabilised, super-zoom model. They are not all 7mp, some of them are 6mp.
The better one is probably the Canon Poweshot S3 IS (6mp), possibly followed by the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7 (also 6mp). The Panasonic is a bit cheaper, and also it comes with a rechargeable battery pack whereas the Canon uses batteries or you need to buy rechargeable batteries, which adds to the bill.
Other options include the Fujifilm Finepix S6500 (but only a 10.7x zoom lens), or the Sony DSC-H5 (one of the few 7mp in the pack but tests don't show it to do much better than its lesser brother the DSC-H2).
In my view those super-zooms have it all: 12x zoom means you can really be creative in composing your shots. Stabilised means you can actually take good pictures even at the long end of the zoom and holding the camera in your hand. And they are fairly light (not much over a pound) and small so that you'll take them anywhere, whereas a comparable SLR with lens would weight at least 4-5x as much and be so bulky that you'd often simply not take it with you.
Overall I'd say the Canon will give you the best image quality day in, day out, too bad about the batteries or the charger you'll need to buy. The Panasonic probably has the best lens (a Leica) but will give you "noisy" images at higher sensitivities.
On a final note, of course stabilised models with more mp's have started to come out, for example the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ50 (10mp), or the Fujifilm Finepix S9100. But they're more expensive, and they're also a bit bulkier.
Hope this helps.

HP sells great Digital Cameras. Good ones are $230-$330 Canadian. If you get one in that price range it should be what your looking for. I got mine for 200 on clearance 6.2 Mega Pixels and my bro got a 8.2MP cam a few weeks ago for $450 after tax.
But you will need at least 512MB card for a 7MP camera. I got a 1GB installed in my 6.2 and my bro has a 512 in his 8.2.
So if you do not have the card there is an other $50-$120 to spend.
Staples business depot is a great place to go too. But future shop and even some wal-marts have good cameras too. I would not go to wal-mart though.
P.S do not pay less then $230 unless you know what your getting. My $200 camera was $350 1 month before I got it.

Whyever would you want 7mp? Do you have a specific purpose in mind? If you want good pics without daylight, you'll need a big camera, 'cos you'll need a "bright" (meaning large maximum aperture) lens and a big flash. You're pretty much limiting yourself to digital SLRs with the criteria you've set. I can't even be bothered to carry a very good but largish compact digital around. I much prefer a poorer quality but pocketable and more usable other one I have.

Try the Kodak C130 it can be purchased in a package deal coming with a series 3 dock and Kodak Easy Share software for around $200.00, available at Wal-Mart and other discount stores. It has a built in flash, daylight or darker and the software even has many features like color balance, lightening or darkening photo's, cropping, etc. and the dock system can do photo quality printing from a lower tray built into the dock. It's not a bad deal and does a good job. BTW I forgot to mention it is 4.0 Megapixels and has a 35mm quality lens. Hope this helps ; )

You want 7+mp but you dont want a ''pricey" camera. What do you consider "pricey"? You need to do a little research and figure out what you really need or want.
