Green tea...hot green tea

A glass of warm tea (any kind) with 6 teaspoons of honey. You don't necessarily have to drink it all at once. The trick is to sip one or two teaspoons every 15 minutes and it will relieve the cough for up to 30mins to 1 hr. Eventually the cough reflex will decrease.

You have 2 options( the simplest one is listed first):
1. Hot tea w/ honey and a few squeezes of lemon.
2. Red Peppers!! A substance similar to that found in the cough syrups is found in hot red pepper. Use red(cayenne) pepper with caution. Too much can give u an upset stomach. The simplest way to consume is on meat or soup.

room-temperature water and low-acid fruit juices(apple, grape). Also, warm(but not hot)tea with lemon in it. Also, try humming into a soft cough to clear your throat, it's an old voice-actors technique that helps quite a bit, and also doesn't damage the vocal chords as much as a harsh cough. Avoid alcoholic beverages and smoking.

Any kind of hot tea is good... especially with honey, which is soothing.

Chamomile is excellent, and will help soothe stomach and throat.

Green tea is good also, but if you drink too much, and you're not used to it, it can cause diarrhea.

Sage tea (just use sage leaves - like the cooking spice) is excellent, helps heal sore throat, and is naturally antiseptic.

If you can get horehound candy or drops, horehound is naturally soothing to your throat.

Hot broth, chicken or beef.
