Hi Joe...this is a mental disorder called animal hoarding. These people's intentions are well meaning however it's an expense to the animals who suffer as a result of these intentions.

It's hard for some people to say no when they see a stray animal and they just decide to take it in. In the case of people owning many cats or even many dogs it's more of an emotional problem of the person. They obviously can't see that they aren't doing the best thing for the animal by taking it into their home.

Sometimes I'm scared I'll be the old cat lady, but then I realize I'd never beable to rationalize that 50 cats would happy in one home. That's kind of psycho.

They mean well. They start off helping a few cats and then more cats come along that need a home. Then some of the original cats mate and kittens are born. These people believe they can be cat saviors. It's really sad and pitiful. After a while things get way out of control.

After people find out that they will take in cats, they will call them to come and get a stray cat that is wandering around their kids. people will drop their kittens off at the door and drive off.
The person usually has a nurturing personality, and all she really sees is the kitty she is petting, or nursing back to health. she does not see she is hurting too. as well as herself. She just doesn't see the bad in the word cat. All she sees is one who needs a home and she is a sucker for a good cat story.

We used to have 40 cats at home, and they were all adorable. It's pure passion towards these felines. Yes, i do agree sometimes people abuse their pets. This kind of people shouldn't have pets at all. But as for us the whole family, we took care all of our cats. Friday is a grooming day for our cats, we bathe them, trim them and gave some vaccination if needed. We cleared the cages every other day. We have all kind of cats from persian, scottish fold, abbys, siamese, etc. But now not anymore, we sold off our cats and some just gave to relatives and friends coz we move to different house. It was a very sad day for me coz they are all my precious. And now that I have a baby of my own, i dont think i have time to take care of cats. : (

We are NOT just a freak. We are FELINE FREAK! : )

I would say cuz they love cats...I love cats myself, but I would never have so many, it is unfair on the cats...they all need attention n caring for....it is impossible to care for n give attention to all them cats. I have seen it on news n tv programmes, where ppl have had so many cats...They obviously dont think of what the cat needs n just think it is ok to keep gettin cats or not get their cats neutered so they have kittens n they keep the kittens n so on...I have 4 cats, n i think that is enough really.

These people are hoarders. They truly love cats, but can't draw the line at what a reasonable number of cats is. They see a homeless cat and take it in.
There is a HUGE cat overpopulation. Homeless and unwanted. These people have huge hearts, but don't know what other resources are available to care for the cats.
It's sad, but these people are victims of the whole cat overpopulation as much as the cats are.
Moral of the story-------------SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS!!

Some are mentally disturbed. They truly feel they are adequately caring for their animals. When in fact they are making a bad situation worse for them and the cats. Remember they are in the house sleeping with these animals. And they are now pissing and pooping everywhere.
