That depends. Some women have high-risk pregnancies and shouldnt have sex because of it. Personally, my husband and I enjoyed sex my whole pregnany. However, I would always have fake contractions after sex. I went into labor after having sex, but it was only 2 weeks early. The fake contractions I usually had lasted and lasted and got more and more painful, til after 38 hours, she was born. It is best if babies are full term though. Even 2 weeks early, babies are at risk for jaundice, which my daughter had pretty bad. It doesnt hurt them really, but my daughter had to be on a light machine at home and get her blood tested every day until it was under control. her entire digestive system was a little behind because of it, and she couldnt have anything but breast milk for 10 months. not like i minded, but if we hadnt had sex, maybe she would have been full term and not had that problem. each woman should discuss her own personal situation with her doctor.

There are several things that a Doc will suggest that you do to help induce labor and having sex is one of them!! I went to my last appointment and that is what my doctor told me. I ended up going into labor on my way home. When I went in that night, my doctor looked at me and said, "I knew I would be seeing you tonight!" He told me that doctors can make a baby come when they want! I had a cervical exaim that day, and whatever poking and probing he did, worked. I guess it would sorta work the same way with sex!!

A study was just released that found that sex in the late stages of pregnancy doesn't actually induce labor any sooner. But hey, might as well try.

Its one of those old wives tales that could help to start going into labour (not immediately...but it could start shifting things). Experience is that it doesn't work but if your at that stage and getting fed up (as most of us do at the end) it's maybe worth a try unless the Doctor has specifically said no due to other complications. Give your Midwife a quick call.

No it is not true. the baby won't come until it is ready.

Sex can start contractions, but they will not do anything unless it was time anyway. Semen will help the cervix soften.

It is perfectly safe to have sex right up until your water breaks, unless your doctor tells you differently because of a complication in your pregnancy.

No. Not usually. If the doctor has advised to refrain do so, but I had sex the night before 2 out of 3 of my kids were born, and it never started or helped labor.

Trust me, even if the woman is able to have sex, chances are she would rather jump from a plane. The thought of having sex with the man that did that to me was unbearable. Although, my last pregnancy, I was desperate. We tried and failed hysterically. That was the funniest thing we ever tried to do. To bad laughing doesn't send a woman into labor. To answer your question, no, it doesn't help.

When I was at my due date with my son, and no baby, the Dr. told us to go home and have lots of sex....I have heard this from other people too. It supposedly helps stretch things and pressure the cervix I think.

By the way, the baby came the next day.
