i signed a lease recently when a family emergency occured and my mom has to live with me for an undeterminate period of time.
Since management here usually want to put down every resident's name on the lease, i am thinking of telling them that she is a guest... how to manage this? any help out there? I live in oregon

I think it would be best to tell them that she's a guest, probably for at least a month, but you really don't know how long, and ask them what will the deal be if she wants to stay a lot longer. They're sure to find out if she stays a long time, so you might as well ask now, & find out how they'll look at it.

In PA a guest can only stay for a week. The reason is that an extra person is extra wear and tare on the apartment and extra on the utilities. If she is to be there long term, you best inform management. Don't be surprised if there is an extra charge.

Well, YOU are responsible for the rent, not her. And she IS a guest, albeit a long--term one.

It seems to me that unless your lease specifies that more than one person cannot live in your apartment, you're OK, legally. Double-check the exact wording on your lease, just to be sure, and go from there.

Put her name on the lease. SInce it was an emergency situation, appeal to your landlord.
